"captured Russian soldier who states, ‘The officers started stationing themselves further and further away from the fighting … they are out of radio range at this point, and no one can contact them’"
Everything made in China turns to sheet.
WOW!
this lack of COMSEC/TRANSEC could make it easy to feed false or misleading traffic into networks depending on these radios. This could pay tactical dividends for the Ukrainians, allowing them to sow disorganisation, doubt and demoralisation into Russian units......
Good research by the author. Explains much.
Many were rightfully skeptical about the Ukes listening in on encrypted russian radios. Looks like they weren’t so encrypted after all.
It seems any report of russian incompetence and ineptitude, should not be dismissed, no matter how far-fetched it might sound.
If reports are true this operation seems poorly planned. You’d think that at the very least the Russians would have calculated their fuel requirements. It’s not like they don’t have oil in Russia.
Please tell me the Russians aren’t using the BaoFeng UV-82HP radio, you can still get one on Ebay with 1-day delivery.
If the Russians are indeed using unencrypted HF comms, I wonder if you understood Russian, could you use one of the many SDRs on the web all over the world, tune and see if you could find Russian military comms.
and it all runs on batteries... now where to charge them?
So there is not much difference between Russia’s radio modernization efforts than those in the US. Our most reliable system is SINCGARS first deployed in 1980s. We’ve relied on commercial entities like Harris and Thales to provide interim solutions along the way because the office programs of record have foundered.
Boris, I need a salvo 300 meters west and 200 meters south of Unit 32 map 311 point AF6.
Salvo 300 meters west and 200 meters south of Unit 32 map 311 point AF6, got it loud and clear Ivan.
Confirmed, Boris.
Unless the Ukrainians know where map 311 point AF6 for Unit 32 is, they’ll only find out when rounds land on top of them. even if they hear every word said over the air in the clear.
Not to mention they ran out of beans and bread.
It is also possible to use telephone lines, either captured Ukrainian or Russian Army-laid.
There are also old cell phone systems that could be used.
There are also the blinker type systems used by the Navy in the past for ship-to-ship communication.
Reagan built up US military forces to beat the Russians.
If you think Ukrainians can beat the Russians, Reagan and Congress wasted trillions of 1980s dollars.
Well, duh. A feller could get hisself kilt up there.
If every unit had its own Facebook page this wouldn't have happened.
There are no electronic communications that can’t be jam or intercepted.
Thought I read there are some American jets in Poland. If there are U.S. Navy EA-18 Growlers or P-8, they can intercepted or jam the shit out of Russian communications, radars, and anti-aircraft missle sites, even from. Polish air space depending on the range.
