Anon-earthquake event triggered the USGS ShakeAlert system, which dozens of people across the county reported feeling, despite it not being an earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) issued a statement via Twitter:
Hi everyone - #ShakeAlert detected a non-earthquake event which triggered our system. Fortunately, no public alerts were sent out. This is a bit of a first time for us because these events happen so rarely. Apologies for any confusion from our previous tweets.

The USGS said they are investigating the cause of the non-earthquake event, and also tweeted they're improving the system:
Around 9:48 a.m. Friday, the USGS reported on its website a preliminary magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattled off the coast of San Clemente. It also added on the site that at least 20 people reported feeling it.

So the USGS has an event show up on their graphs, people feel the earth shaking but it wasn’t an earth quake. hmmm. Under ground nuclear test?
There was a 4.6 in mexico about at Ensenada. A lot of times the navy creates sonic booms off the coast by San Clemente too. They can regularly rumble through the area.
More likely a Rods of the Gods test. But San Diego area would be an odd place for any kind of test.
