The article says the judgment was against the kid. How does a 17-year-old pay an $18m judgment? It would be very unusual for an auto insurance policy to provide that much coverage. He would just file for bankruptcy and be done with it. I do think the father could have some liability for negligent entrustment, but the article doesn’t mention that.
