SEATTLE — Passengers on a Carnival Cruise Ship that docked Tuesday in Seattle say more than 100 people aboard the ship tested positive for COVID-19 and the ship was overwhelmed.
Multiple people say they’re in quarantine at Seattle-area hotels after testing positive or being exposed to someone with COVID-19. Carnival Cruise Line would not confirm how many people tested positive, but said there were a number of positive cases, KING5 reported.
Darren Sieferston, a passenger on the cruise from Miami to Seattle, is in quarantine after testing positive. He said the crew’s response was chaotic.
“They didn’t have enough staff to handle the emergency that was happening, period,” said Sieferston. “They were overwhelmed and they didn’t have a backup course in how to handle about 200 people affected with COVID. We all suffered.”

Some could have picked it up on the plane ride to the ship or long before boarding since it takes 2 days to 14 days to show up.
The cruise lines are in an impossible situation.
They should just test people before boarding and let the unvaccinated go on cruises, if they feel like going, and if the ports will accept them. -Tom

It’s a little early for the midterm variant; they must just be trying to stay in practice.
This type of cruise is known as a repositioning cruise as the ship came to Seattle for the Alaska Cruise season. Lots of folks like them as it only requires a one way airline ticket and you get to transition the Panama Canal. I haven’t done one but others in my family have and said it was a blast.
Problem is that the Caribbean islands are still operating with a March 2021 mentality due to lack of healthcare infrastructure making them highly cautious. Makes cruising with WuFlu very difficult but you know that already.

Yeah cruises are the equivalent of the ball pit at a McDonald’s for adults. If you don’t get sick from them, it’s a miracle.
