Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Profit Wiped Out by Commodity Costs

Ford Motor Co.’s hot-selling Mustang Mach-E electric SUV and other plug-in models are being rendered unprofitable by rising raw material costs.

“We actually had a positive bottom line profit when we launched the Mach-E, commodity costs have wiped that out,” Chief Financial Officer John Lawler said Wednesday at the Deutsche Bank Global Automotive Conference, referring to 2020, when the vehicle went on sale. “You’re going to see pressure on the bottom line when we launch our EVs, they’re not going to be positive.”

Good. That’s what you get for making the Mustang into a 4 door jellybean looking SUV.

I got a 2021 F150, 3.5L Twin Turbo, 10 spd. towards the end of last year.

With a fair, at least quartering tailwind, it got ~23.5 mpg on 87 Octane E0 gas over 630 mi. today [self reporting..].

It can go over 750 miles on a tank of E0, under summer temperature, tailwind conditions.

With the lowest offered numerical axle ratio, it runs ~1850 rpm at 80 mph.

YMMV.

Drill, baby, drill....

Every.single.time. some smug Biden Cabinet official or Government leftist makes a prediction or smart-ass remark, it seems they have their foot in their mouth within days.

That c*** Debbie Stabenow comes to mind immediately.

Kind of happy to hear it.
Anything to slow the “Green” charade.
ICE cars are underwriting the EV’s.
But fewer ICE cars means that sort of rob Peter to pay Paul cannot continue indefinitely.
Ford may be “Too big to fail”, but they are not the Fed. Gov.
Glad I am not a stock holder.

That’s what happens when you rely upon a non-renewable source of materials.

Tesla just raised prices and, u like Ford, its buyers can’t get a $7500 tax credit since Tesla is non-union. With all that, the sales keep setting records. And Musk has never paid for a single ad. Ford has already spent $90 million on ads for e-cars it has yet to deliver!

Ford Loses $3.1 Billion, Hit by Investment and Chip Shortage
Ford has reported a $3.1 billion loss for the first quarter, in large part because of a drop in the value of its investment in an electric-vehicle startup.

Next step is to sue Tesla for anti-trust since Musk decided to leave the reservation.

Oh, the powers that be are doing their best to get Musk. The stock closings a few weeks back and the DOJ anti trust suit were warm ups. But I’m sure he knew what’s coming and prepped himself for them..

We saw one on the way home this evening. It is unbelievable that any car with the Mustang emblem could be so butt ugly. Incredible! It’s sort of a cross between the Edsel and the Mustang II.

OK, OK thanks for posting. We make a run every few weeks if we can to San Diego from our home in Riverside, and have seen those things on the Freeway, but couldn’t identify them. NOW we know.

Yeah, as somebody said in an earlier post “Butt Ugly”. Wouldn’t be caught expired in one. Somebody might think we were liberals.

So basically, nobody wants one.

Oh, people want them all right, but apparently not at a price point at which Ford can make money.
