Squeegee workers?

When did this become an occupation? Is there a union? Where do you apply for one of these "jobs"? Any special training required?

Everyone knows that squeegee workers aren’t workers at all. They are low-level extortionists. So it’s simply wrong to give them the honorable title of “worker”. But, hey. That’s the state of American journalism these days.

A strike by squeegee workers threatens to end driver distraction and force people to wash their own windows. The main issue is said to be working conditions. “We are forced to stand around in all kinds of weather and fight with heavy traffic, all for minimum wage and no benefits. No other profession has to face these intolerable conditions,” said Ima Goofball, the head of the Amalgamated Nuisance Workers of America.

“If Americans want to see us loitering near left turn lanes again, they will need to dig a bit deeper, and welcome us into their personal space even though we serve no obvious purpose in an age where most vehicles have wipers and fluid.”

The union of those guys with the big signs outside used car lots gave their full support.

The people who attempt to clean your windshield without your permission or request are now called “Squeegee Workers”? I always called them deadbeats or extortionists.

What kind of crapola is this?

I used to just tell them in Houston that if they touched my truck I’d run over them. Usually a menacing look would drive them off though.

Yeah that was a glaring call. Probably get on disability from PTSD. Hmmmm. Did the “worker” have a permit to CCW?

You are your own boss and get to make your own hours.

It's a shakedown. Inner-city feral youths congregate upon your vehicle to "clean" your windshield at red lights and then demand payment for their services. If you don't pay, they strike your car with their metal squeegees.

They're a menace.

Anyone who jumps out of a car, in a fit of road rage, is asking for trouble. Better to stay in your car and just keep moving, (as in moving to another place to live).

The man's mistake was venturing into an area with "squeegee" thugs. Generally it is best to never go near that racial group known for violence and thuggery.

"squeegee workers"

This is the first I've heard of this. So, they approach your car and - whether you want it or not - they wash your windshield and demand payment?

Yahoo is trying to change our thoughts by misusing words. By saying “squeegee workers” they are legitimizing the fake job of intimidating drivers.

When the “squeegee workers” start paying taxes on their earnings, they can be called workers. Until that time, they, and Yahoo, are fired.

No doubt the man in the car was carrying an illegal fully-semi-auto AB-15 Assault Bat, with a mega-capacity 30-clip magazine and a “choke-up” bump stock.

Another article on the incident from the Baltimore Sun. They actually have four different articles.

Video captured part of deadly encounter between downtown Baltimore squeegee workers, man with baseball bat
By Alex Mann and Lee O. Sanderlin
Baltimore Sun

Jul 09, 2022 at 10:24 am

Baltimore City youths work for tips washing car windshields. Known as “Squeegee kids,” they walk between cars stopped for the red light at the I-83 exit on North Avenue to offer their services. City officials and non-profit partners are trying to work on a new, more holistic approach to help the “squeegee people” to move from the street into other jobs. (Kenneth K. Lam )

Video cameras captured at least part of a deadly confrontation involving squeegee workers and a man wielding a baseball bat Thursday at an intersection in downtown Baltimore that has been the site of increased 911 calls about the window washers.

Timothy Reynolds, of Hampden, died at a hospital after being fatally shot on the corner of East Conway and Light streets around 4:30 p.m. after he confronted squeegee workers with a bat.

Reynolds drove through that intersection, parked on the other side of Light Street and emerged from his car with the bat, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said Thursday. Reynolds walked across the street, approached a group of young men washing windows and swung the bat at one or more of them. A squeegee worker pulled out a handgun and shot Reynolds.

At least part of the incident was captured on video and is being reviewed by authorities. The footage shows Reynolds swinging a bat in the direction of a squeegee worker, according to two people with knowledge of the investigation. It was unclear Friday whether anyone was struck with the bat.

Harrison on Friday pleaded for anyone who witnessed the fatal encounter, has information about it or captured any of it on video to come forward. He said he has directed officers to increase their visibility at locations where squeegee workers operate.

A police spokeswoman said detectives have yet to identify or apprehend a suspect, while a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office said prosecutors could not provide an update about an open investigation.

The article describes in detail a previous set of incidents at the same intersection and this nugget.

For decades, Baltimore leaders have explored ways to get young window washers away from busy and dangerous city intersections. Officials say city workers frequently reach out to the youths to offer other opportunities, even jobs that pay the same day, in recognition of the draw of the quick dollar and the deep-rooted issues that lead some squeegee kids in need of an immediate payout.

The Episcopal Church is holding it Triennial General Convention n Baltimore right now.

Inexplicably, they chose this as a site to protest gun violence. Not the hill I would have chosen.

Hundreds of Episcopalians march, calling for an end to gun violence

[Episcopal News Service – Baltimore, Maryland] A murder on July 7 near the site of General Convention and the urging of two bishops, including one who happened upon the scene as it unfolded, prompted a march of hundreds of people from the Baltimore Convention Center to an open area a few blocks from the scene of the shooting, coordinated by Bishops United Against Gun Violence.

According to news reports, 48-year-old Timothy Reynolds was shot and killed after an altercation with two young men who were washing drivers’ windshields at an intersection near Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, about two blocks from the Baltimore Convention Center where the 80th General Convention is taking place July 8-11. After words were exchanged, Reynolds got out of his car and swung a baseball bat in the direction of those who sometimes are called “squeegee workers,” one of whom shot Reynolds. He later was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Isn’t that how this is supposed to work? Psycho starts swinging a bat on the streets and somebody shoots him dead. Libs were probably grooming him to attack Trump.

Don't like squeegee bums...but they don't deserve to be assaulted. Arrested,yes...assaulted,no. Sounds justifiable to me.
