The Omicron BA.5 subvariant has become the dominant coronavirus strain in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
While this variant is fast-spreading, it appears to be less severe than early versions of the virus, and its symptoms are similar to those of other Omicron subvariants, experts say.
Symptoms of Omicron infections are typically coldlike, including a sore throat, sneezing, and a runny nose. Symptoms like fever, chills, and cough are still seen sometimes in Omicron cases but not as frequently as in earlier variants of the virus.
Like past variants in the Omicron lineage, BA.5 seems to primarily affect the upper respiratory tract, according to experts at the University of Colorado. Symptoms like a sore throat and nasal congestion indicate that the virus has infiltrated the nose and airways, but Omicron is less likely to affect the lungs compared with past variants, Drs. Thomas Campbell and Steven Johnson, two infectious-disease experts, said in a news release.
Loss of smell, which was a signature symptom in early COVID-19 cases, is rarely seen with the Omicron subvariants — likely because that symptom indicates the virus has affected the nervous system.
The BA.5 subvariant accounts for about 53% of COVID-19 infections in the country, according to the CDC.
As symptoms remain similar to recent Omicron subvariants, severity seems to be decreasing with BA.5, Dr. David Dowdy, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, told Insider. Getting infected with the coronavirus or exposed to it via vaccine teaches the immune system to respond to the threat without overwhelming the body, he added.

Even if the virus doesn't cause severe illness in most people, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there was still a risk that hospitals may become overwhelmed because of the transmissibility of the strain.
"This is still a virus that's killing hundreds of people in the US a day, and that's hundreds of people who don't need to be dying," Dowdy said. "At the same time, the average case is getting milder over time."

Sore throat, time to mask up and take 15 shots.
I actually think I had it again 2 or 3 weeks ago and did not realize it until it was over. I was tired for 2 or 3 days, most of which was on a weekend. Had a mild headache one afternoon. It did not dawn on me it might be COVID until I recovered after about 3 days. I did not feel bad enough to make me slow down or stay at home. But after looking back at my symptoms and comparing notes with my wife, we pretty much decided we had contracted it for the second time. There just wasn’t much to it.

Cold or allergy?
Just getting over it. Mild cold, very slight temp the first 2 days, no cough, no sore throat, mild fatigue & body aches.
A 3/10 on the nuisance scale.
So it’s essentially just a seasonal flu at this point.
If they don't need to die, then why are they dying? What should be done differently? Wear masks, stay home, social distance again? Close down all businesses and send out $5 trillion more COVID relief checks? Or more vax shots?
Seasonal allergies. Same symptoms I get every year.

Of course, the keepers of Covid semi fake news don’t want those realities becoming a common reality.
My wife’s family back in the midwest recently had an outbreak of the latest CC aka crud hitting 4 generations in about a week. Most thought that they were just getting allergies and a few aches. No treatment besides rest, allergy meds and baby aspirin/or a mild NSAID and lots of fluids.
The ages ran from 78 to pre teen. One 50 year old guy had to go to bed for a day. No fevers just mild aches and pain. Their sense of smell and taste were basically gone. -3 All were vaccinated 2-3 times.
A similar pattern hit a large California family, many of which we are friends. One of their many Grandkids was graduated from a nursing school. So they held a party at the grandparents to celebrate. Basically everyone had been vaccinated 2-3 times. The grandparents were the only ones who didn’t get the crud. All of the other family members had the same mild symptoms as our mid west family.
Antihistamines/NSAIDS and steroid nasal spray were the treatments, recommended by their new RN.
An interesting sidebar to all of this:
There appears to be a run on Afrin Nasal Spray in many areas. Local Costco’s are out and Amazon is out of many different sizes of spray.
