GREENWOOD, Ind. — Within 15 seconds of a mass shooter opening fire inside the Greenwood Park Mall, Elisjsha Dicken got off 10 rounds, striking the shooter 8 times, and killing him.

Police say Dicken was shopping with his girlfriend Sunday at the mall when he stopped at a cookie counter close to the main walkways of the mall. When the gunman exited the restroom, beginning his shooting spree, police say what he did was nothing short of heroic.

Armed only with a handgun, police say Dicken first engaged the shooter from a distance of 40 yards. Police say he was very proficient and tactically sound.

According to police, Dicken hit the shooter from 40 yards away with his 9mm Glock on the very first shot. Johnson County Coroner Mike Pruitt said an autopsy found the suspect had eight gunshot wounds and none were self-inflicted. He fired 10 shots with an 80 percent strike rate.

Dicken started making his way towards the gunman, motioning for people to leave behind him. The gunman tried to retreat back into the restroom, but Dicken continued on, shooting the suspect until he fell.

“The surveillance video shows Sapirman exit the restroom at 5:56:48 p.m.,” Ison said. “He was neutralized by Dicken 15 seconds later at 5:57:03 p.m.”

Police took him to the Greenwood Police Department while they watched the security video and spoke with other witnesses to confirm what Dicken told them. During the whole process, police say Dicken fully cooperated.

Dicken had no police training or military background.

Police also confirmed Dicken was carrying a gun under the constitutional carry law that went into effect July 1.

We will call it the Dicken Drill and implement it on our range immediately.

Begin at 40 yards, holstered.
Begin firing on the target while moving toward the target.
Stage ends at 15 seconds or when 10 rounds have been expended.
Par will be 8 in the kill zone.

As correctly stated by Chief James Ison of the Greenwood Police Department, whether Mr. Dicken possessed a LTCH is legally irrelevant due to the fact that on July 1, 2022, Constitutional Carry (or “permitless carry”) became the law in Indiana – as it has in 24 other states (2)

When seconds count. The police are minutes away

When seconds counted, Eli Dicken was there.

The yellow gearqueer dogs of Uvalde hang their operator-bespectacled heads in shame.

My thoughts exactly. “Noooooo!”

He probably didn’t expect to get out alive but expected to take a lot more people out first.

Even if the police were exactly the opposite of the ones in Uvalde, and if they were in the parking lot when this started, the shooter would have had time to kill quite a few people before they got him stopped.

The last few seconds of his life were quite a surprise and not at all what he had planned. Thank God.

Yep. The anti-gun MSM have already memory-holed this story. You will hear no more about it. It completely undermines the gun-grabber, gun-free zone, anti-concealed carry argument. Totally spikes their BS and encourages concealed carry even in “No Guns Allowed” public venues.

And they can’t have that.

“Does this gun carry 10 in the magazine? Or did he reload”

I don’t know. I have not seen any reports on what he was carrying.

I’m curious as to what the inherent accuracy (precision?) of the weapon is. If it is clamped for sighting and fired 10 times at a target 40 yards away, what will the grouping be?

My guess is that Providence AND skill played a role in the first shot at least, then Dicken was able to move in closer to the perp.

Not only is the 40 yds. impressive, but keep in mind he was in a fire fight at the time. This was no passive target shooting! This was real combat with a live person firing his rifle in front of a live audience. Maybe just a little stress.

If he braced against a pillar to steady the initial shot, that would have improved the odds of a good hit. The first bullet strike would have disoriented the shooter allowing an opportunity to close the gap for follow-up shots.

In a static range test, the common device used is a "Ransom Rest". It clamps the handgun tightly. Align the sights and pull the trigger. The degree of precision of fit in the slide/barrel and consistency of ammo components (bullet weight, charge weight, crimping force) all play into the "bench rest" shooting repeatability. In reality, the shooter is almost always the lowest precision element. Most modern firearms are far more consistent than their users.

The Uvalde horror was no different than Nazi prison guards following orders. Each person there was specifically responsible for carrying out orders that caused the death of children and their teachers. They are no less culpable than the shooter himself. There was ample opportunity by every officer present to end the killing. Following an illegal, murderous order is not justifiable.

I wish they had blacked out his birthday. That’s not information that should be out there to everyone.

The perp got off 25 rounds, but who knows how many of those were in the people he killed. But, yes, in short, he was shooting back.

I completely agree. Resignation from the force is too easy. They should be tried and convicted.
