Lynchburg (Virginia) City Council votes down resolution to condemn vandalism at pregnancy center

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Lynchburg City Council voted to not go forward with a resolution condemning the recent vandalism at the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center.

The center was vandalized last month, following the Supreme Court's Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade.

The resolution was proposed by Councilman Chris Faraldi. The motion to approve the resolution failed 2-5.

Faraldi said he is disheartened by the vote, and that he saw this as an opportunity for the council to call out evil for what it is.

"I truly saw it as an opportunity for the seven of us to join hands, stand together and put our votes forward and say, 'we're gonna call out what's wrong in our community,' and I think that was the right thing to do," Faraldi said. "It was really an opportunity for us to come together, and unfortunately, it didn't happen."

Councilman Sterling Wilder was one of the five council members who voted against the resolution.

Wilder said this is not something that the council has done in the past. He said by rejecting this resolution, it does not mean that he condones the violence.

"The violence was horrible. We do not condone violence, but if we started making a proclamation, a memorandum, an agreement or a statement on every single act of violence, it's going to be somewhat challenging," Wilder said.

Wilder said he believes there are other ways than this resolution to make statements about violence in the community.

Faraldi said he believes a vote to approve this resolution would have reflected the stance of the community on the issue.

That the majority of the council won’t call out violence and evil - shows that they are corrupt and themselves, evil.

Laws are no longer laws.

Laws are convenient ways to “get” some of the “bad people” while the “good people” can commit the same acts and avoid all prosecution.

The majority of the City Council sound like they should be in the Cantina at Mos Eisley Spaceport.

I’m surprised actually. Lynchburg is (or was) one of the most conservative areas in VA

That’s f’d up regardless of where you stand on the issue. It has been returned to the States, not the mobs.

Lynchburg is an odd place. Liberty University, Lynchburg College (a track surrounded by a school) and a ghetto.

“if we started making a proclamation, a memorandum, an agreement or a statement on every single act of violence, it’s going to be somewhat challenging,”

...what’s “challenging” is your capacity to use your pea brain. This just leads to more violence. Worse violence. And the criminals know they can get away with it. Which I suppose is the idea.

They won’t condemn violence. Things like this make me think of Civil War coming is not that outlandish to predict anymore.

“Lynchburg is (or was) one of the most conservative areas in VA”

From the 1960s through the 1980s, perhaps.

Lynchburg completed its leftward journey in 2020, voting for a Democrat for President for the first time since Harry Truman was running. It did bounce back a little last year and voted pretty solidly for Youngkin.

But it’s also voted for Tim Kaine and Mark Warner several times. At best it’s a marginal area now.

What the h3ll is wrong here? This is Lynchburg, home of Liberty University. It is surrounded by deeply conservative territory and only narrowly voted for Xiden in 2020 (supposedly).

Conservative voters have been ignoring local and school board elections for decades. That’s how evil sneaks into power.

I tend to agree. They should have more important things to do. The vandalism should be handled by cops finding and charging the perps and by the court punishing them.

The hypocrisy of the “prochoice” (actually proabort) side is astounding.

Only one choice can be made, only one choice is acceptable to them. How is that being prochoice.

The takeaway is that the Council majority approves of the vandalism. (perhaps they even participated.)

“Wilder said he believes there are other ways than this resolution to make statements about violence in the community.”

I don't suppose any reporter had the guts to pin him down on “the other ways” part of that sentence. When did people get so afraid of even condemning violent acts?
