Aftermath of Hurricane Ian - Massive destruction in Times Square, Ft. Myers Beach

Still waiting to hear from friends there.
I knew it had to be really bad last night, because I saw all kinds of post-storm videos from places like Punta Gorda and Naples, but nothing from Fort Myers.
My first thought was, that sans the radiation, they might as well have gotten nuked. To have the eye-wall from the dirty side of the storm literally there for several hours, is probably unprecedented in a densely populated area like that.
The politically motivated bitter criticism will now begin, blaming a Republican for the weather. None of the criticism will go to biden, who delayed contacting the governor, for political reasons. If a Republican had refused to call a democrat governor, they’d be calling for impeachment.
Wow! That is horrendous, but not surprising. It was a Cat 4.
...no, Leftist whackjobs, DiSantis could not have done anything about this. He is neither Moses or God. Nor did Climate “Chamge” have any part in this.
Those plantations had hurricane shutters for a reason.
Ian is moving back out to sea...to regroup, no doubt.
Scary stuff!

I can’t count the number of times I’ve flown into Ft Meyer airport. Many new housing projects were being planned and built on Estero and Ft Meyer. All gone, along with deposits and dreams. Damn shame.
Dear Lord, help those poor folks.
How are things in Estero (where I lived from 2014-2017)?
Anyone know how North Port fared?
Times Square in Fort Myers sits on a strip of land in the middle of water and the 10 Mile Canal. This area is about 1000 feet wide and sits pretty much where the storm hit first. This is not shocking. I’m sure the people living there or having businesses are plenty upset and I hope they will be ok but they cannot be completely shocked, either. I hope to God they were all smart enough to vacate.
That’s heartbreaking.
I remember when Harvey did that to Port Aransas/Rockport, TX in 2017 before coming to Houston and lingering, dumping record amounts of rain in the Greater Houston area. The damage was mind-boggling.
They came back, as will Ft. Myers, Punta Gorda and that area, but it will take a while. My prayers are with those affected.
Spent many a beautiful year vacationing in Sanibel Island and Captiva. How did those fair?
Define “leveled”?
Drama-queenitis seems to be a pandemic.
I think the Satan controls the weather. Remember how helpful hurricane Sandy was to Obama in 2012?
I guess this is going to make a perfect “emergency” to justify the RATs flooding the state with banana ballots before the election. FEMA will probably be handing out cases of already filled out “mail in” ballots to everyone. All they’ll have to do is take them down to a floating drop box. Two Thousand “Sea Horses” will be by to pick them up.
I have family in Florida and I’ve been to Fort Meyers a few times. It was just beautiful and I loved it there. Sanibel was a fun place, watching alligator gar chase each other around under water.
It’s sad to see the mess. Perhaps the land will be cleansed. I hope.
Sadly point of impact is always the worst. My cousin in Tampa never lost power. Go figure.
I listened to DeSantis’ presser. No one Biden is terrified. There’s not enough Alzheimer’s drugs in the country to pick him up long enough for a primary campaign AND a prime time debate with DeSantis.
I have friends in Sanibel, Ft Myers and Punta Gorda and not been able to get a hold of them yet. Wish all in the area well
