I will add other information and links to judges as I go along if this is helpful to anyone. The first ones I found out about were quite eye opening.

Found this one for David B. Gass
Court of Appeals/retain?

“Judge Gass is a member of the LGBTQ+ community”.

“JUDGE DAVID BRUCE GASS grew up in central Pennsylvania but spent a year taking classes in Chihuahua, Mexico. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ruth V. McGregor before joining the Phoenix law firm of Lewis and Roca, LLP. He spent seven sessions working as Counsel at the Arizona House of Representatives, before going to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

In 2009, Judge Gass was appointed to the Superior Court in Maricopa County. He served on all four major assignments. He sat on the Arizona Bar Association’s Civil Jury Instruction Committee and served as President of the Arizona Judges’ Association. He and Judge Pamela Svoboda established the STRENGTH Court in Maricopa County. STRENGTH Court works with victims of sex trafficking who are in the juvenile justice system.

In 2019, Judge Gass was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One. He began serving as the Vice Chief Judge in June 2021. He is a member of the Arizona Supreme Court Commission on Diversity, Equality, and Justice. He chaired the 2022 Child Support Guidelines Review Subcommittee.

Judge Gass was awarded the 2005 Arizona State University College of Law Alumni Association recognition for outstanding service, the 2014 Michael D. Ryan Award for Judicial Excellence from the State Bar of Arizona Public Lawyers Section, the 2018 Pete Dunn Above and Beyond Award as outstanding ambassador of the Judges in Arizona, and the 2018 Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law Judicial Officer of the Year. The State Bar of Arizona awarded him its 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award. In 2021, the Arizona Supreme Court’s Committee on Judicial Education and Training awarded him the Excellence in Education Award.

Judge Gass is on the Arizona Town Hall Training Committee and has worked with Arizona Anytown Youth Leadership.

Judge Gass is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He focuses and speaks on diversity and inclusion issues. He has been active in many related projects. Several are listed here. He developed a training module to unpack and demystify the judicial application process to encourage diversity in Arizona’s courts. He also developed an undergraduate internship program at the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One to give diverse undergraduate students experience working in the courts and to encourage them to go to law school.

Most notable, Judge Gass felt strongly that Arizona should officially recognize the Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution so that we never forget the wrongs done to persons of Japanese descent and their families. He spent five years making it a reality so we always remember our constitution and our civil liberties are fragile and require our constant attention.

And he saves stray dogs on the side”.

Of the picks that I know are good they match mine. Is there somewhere that makes the choice for the ballot initiatives clear? There are 18 of them!

As far as judges go I want to know if they go by the law as written or if they legislate from the bench.

The Honorable John Blanchard - Trellis

Hon. John Blanchard is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Doug Ducey in 2019. During his judicial tenure, Blanchard has held an assignment in the Family Court.

https://trellis.law/judge/john.blanchard

From Ducey’s Twitter post “Cassie Bray Woo and John Blanchard are going to be excellent additions to the bench. I am pleased to appoint them to the Maricopa County Superior Court”.

It’s hard to find information on some of these and I am not trying to decide for you but if Ducey liked Woo so much and so did Red Wave I’m hoping that Blanchard being touted as a good addition is a good pick. IMHO

Hon. Theodore Campagnolo See Rating Details
Superior Court Judge

Famous case in which this judge worked on was a local care center in which an incapacitated woman ended up pregnant by a staff member.

There are a lot of complaints against this judge on this website. I don’t claim to know if they are sour grapes or valid but it is interesting. http://therobingroom.com/arizona/Judge.aspx?id=22854

Hon. Katherine Cooper is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jan Brewer in September 2011
https://trellis.law/judge/katherine.cooper

Guy on Twitter who’s name is Arizona @EuphorbiaZ is a dem and I think a lib, hates her. Responding to someone else about the mask mandate: “Maricopa County Judge Katherine Cooper says she’ll rule on AZ ban on mask mandates by Sept. 29, date law takes effect. Hearing lasted 1 hour. Summary:
➡️’Law is blatantly unconstitutional.’
⬅️’Legislature has a lot of wiggle room.’”
“Arizona
@EuphorbiaZ Maricopa County Judge Katherine Cooper is a Jan Brewer appointee. The date is no accident”.

Then I’m ok with her.

https://roselawgroupreporter.com/2013/07/no-brainer-lawsuit-against-phoenix-councilman-tossed/
By Dustin Gardiner | The Arizona Republic

A Maricopa County judge on Monday tossed out a lawsuit filed by three Phoenix residents accusing Councilman Sal DiCiccio of campaign-finance violations related to his creation of a non-profit corporation.

Superior Court Judge Mark Brain took several swipes at the merits of the suit during a hearing, suggesting it had been filed for political reasons. DiCiccio is in the middle of a heated re-election fight for his District 6 City Council seat, and the plaintiffs in the case support his opponent, Karlene Keogh Parks.

“You want me to declare it that he’s doing something illegally so you can wave it around like a bloody flag in the news,” Brain said to the plantiffs’ attorney. “Don’t ya?”

DiCiccio very conservative. I’m thinking he’s being fair and these people are not liking DiCiccio.

Hon. Kristin Culbertson is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Doug Ducey. https://trellis.law

A lot of complaints but here is by Change.org a democrat group.

https://www.change.org/p/doug-ducey-remove-kristin-culbertson-as-a-maricopa-county-family-court-judge

Complaints against her in the Robing room because she votes with the Arizona department of child safety. Hmm. Seems like that is a good place but you never know

http://therobingroom.com/arizona/Judge.aspx?id=28191

People on Twitter calling for her removal but for me if Change.org doesn’t like her I don’t trust Change.org.
