After an accident, former World Champion Anatoly Karpov was rushed to the hospital with multiple head injuries in which he was placed in an induced coma. Karpov was put on a ventilator now, and has been diagnosed with cerebral edema, fractures of the right parietal and right temporal bones, multiple head hematomas, and traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. We will update this report as the news trickles in.

I met Karpov, popularly referred to as “the fetus,” in 1988 when he played an early round world championship match with the Icelander Hjartarson in Seattle. I was running the demonstration board.

Karpov was one of the true greats in his day. Being able to squeeze out wins from near drawn positions, like Magnus does today, that was genius.
Never-Trump Karpov got the war he must’ve wanted I guess. He backed Biden against Trump. Now look at him.
