Jordan Marshall and Kandace Florence, who attended high school together in Virginia Beach, had been vacationing in Mexico City with Marshall’s friend from New Orleans, Courtez Hall. The trio was there for the celebrations surrounding “Dia de Muertos,” or Day of the Dead.

Kandace Florence’s boyfriend was on the phone with her on the night of Oct. 30 when Florence started getting sick, the family told Nexstar’s WAVY. She told him something wasn’t right. The two eventually were disconnected and he couldn’t get Florence back on the line. He then called the Airbnb host to do a welfare check, and authorities found Florence, Marshall, and Hall dead.

Marshall, a teacher in New Orleans, and Florence, who started a candle business — Glo Through It — in 2020, were both 28 years old. Florence would have turned 29 on Nov. 10. Hall was also a teacher in New Orleans.

“Dia de Muertos,” or Day of the Dead.

In Mexico no less. They made a deadly choice for a vacation.

The latest I heard is the tourists in beach towns are being subjected to muggings and bad booze. Acapulco is still in the middle of a crimewave I believe.

The good parts of Mexico City are supposed to be one of the few safe places left in Mexico. If I went there, I would stay in a nice hotel rather than the airbnb house of someone desperate to make money.

Portland Oregon has a higher murder rate than Mexico City.

Of course, if your the one murdered the ratios are quite meaningless.

[Portland Oregon has a higher murder rate than Mexico City.]

Portland’s drugged-out anarchic, but not in a homicidal way.

https://oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2022/10/03/should-visitors-to-portland-be-afraid-not-really/
[the murder rate for 2020 stood at around 6.5]

Mexico City is in a different class of murderous:

https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/high-impact-crime-on-decline-in-mexico-city/
[On a per capita basis, Mexico City – which has a population of some 9.2 million people across its 16 boroughs – was the 22nd most violent entity with 40 homicides per 100,000 people. ]

There are more dangerous cities in the US. Names like Baltimore, Detroit, San Juan and St. Louis stand out. The one thing they’re not is whitopias like Portland:

Absolutely 100% it is.

I can find crime in my neck of the woods too.

And if gringos go looking for trouble in MX, they will easily find it.
