GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Gainesville man is in jail after being accused of stealing from a Walmart store that he claimed he owned.
According to Gainesville Police Department records obtained by WCJB, Steven Francis, 51, was caught stealing clothes from the Walmart located behind Butler Plaza in Gainesville.
Upon arrival, officers said Francis told them he was the owner of the store after a “hostile takeover.” Francis said he had no remorse for taking the clothes because he already owned the store.
According to WCJB, the items taken are estimated to be worth over $200.
Francis is currently behind held at the Alachua County Jail.
Florida Man apparently owns Wal-Mart. Maybe the company won’t be as woke now.
Well, he owns one store, anyway. There is hope for Wal-Mart!
That’s a B- level Florida Man story. Lack of booze and alligators and ride-on lawn mowers, but a bad explanation that tends to evoke sympathy for the perpetrator raises it a bit.
I know Gainesville well from my law school days and many visits since then, and I know that WalMart well. In a college town stuffed with crazies of all stripes, that particular WalMart seems to be especially attractive to them.
Rules man! Gainesville is the realm of Florida Man.

someone moves into your house, you discover them, and then call police, but police wont remove them because they say they rented the place and produce fake lease.
I don’t see why a thief couldn’t do the same with any store they want to rob, just produce a fake lease and say, this store and everything in it are mine, here is my fake lease!
