England versus the USA at the World Cup is a tale of humiliation, comedy errors and goalkeeper clangers... from the Three Lions' shock defeat in 1950 to Rob Green's howler in 2010

Cross England with the USA and the World Cup and you end up with an embarrassing blend of ritual humiliation, comical errors and goalkeeping last rites.

Start in 1950, and perhaps the most notorious defeat in Belo Horizonte, when the FA’s approach was so casual they sent Stanley Matthews via a goodwill tour of Canada and allowed Jack Aston and Henry Cockburn to tour the USA with Manchester United on the way.

Nobody really cared about the World Cup in 1950. I was at a bar watching the "Howler Game" with my Scottish co-worker. The place absolutely exploded when the English goalie screwed up. My friend was in full hate the English mode. The term "Howler" entered the US slang vocabulary for a while thanks to the great English announcer Martin Tyler working for ESPN using the term. I think I am going to go to an English pub in town run by a Liverpudlian in my full Victorian kit. I even printed out the lyrics for "God Save the King" and "Jerusalem". I can ignore the Rainbow People crap for a few hours. I hope all freepers had a nice Thanksgiving.

If one is interested in the history of the World Cup the podcast “The Rest if History” has episodes about all that topic. Quite a tongue in cheek approach that makes for a fun listening.

the loss by Wales to Iran has revived the hopes of the USA. We will still lose to England, but the US can advance to the final 16 by beating Iran.

“Jerusalem” with lyrics. I remember the first time heating this hymn when I was a boy at the theater viewing “Chariots of Fire”

Two teams guided by woke faggotry and destruction of the West. Is it possible for both teams to lose?

Hah. You are assuming the Obama-Biden establishment wants to beat Iran. In anything.

The only thing I learned from this article is that ESPN was founded in 1979.

I had to look it up.

Yesterday, I was told by my daughter who heard it from a friend who learned it from her second cousin three times removed that the officials at today's match-up have imposed an additional trophy:

The loser has to keep Harry and Megan.

Metric football is a fabulous sport for sodomites and trannies and other assorted pervs. They can have it.

“You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world cup is enmity with God?” — James 4:4

(Forgive me Lord, I’m paraphrasing just a little there.)

That aside, we put a metric football match on the teevee yesterday after dinner because there was no real football available. My goodness it’s tedious. Ninety minutes of watching the astroturf grow, punctuated by the occasional drama queen faking a painful injury. One stupid goal scored the whole time. Blech. The best part was when a real football commercial came on! Thirty seconds of actual sports excitement! Then back to watching paint dry. :-(

Yet American football takes three hours to play a 60 minute game, where the ball only actually moves about 18 minutes.

It depends on how bad the USA lose to England. If they lose 4-0 (which is very possible) then Iran will have the advantage based on the fair-play rules (least yellow cards). Myself, I would like to see them get kidnapped by Climate Change terrorist and forced to forfeit the remaining games. /spit

The fact that most games end in 1-0, 1-1, or 2-1 scores makes it nearly impossible for the sport to catch on in the U.S.A.

Further, from the announcers down to the players on the field, you get that European effeminate vibe that is repulsive to most American men.

You’re right. Soccer and American football share one particular feature that make them two of the dumbest sports around today.

They’re the only sports where the clock runs after the whistle blows and nothing is happening on the field of play.
