Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s favorite foreign policy expert has a history of echoing anti-Jewish ideas.
. What they may not know is that he’s also a longtime purveyor of anti-Semitic ideas.
“We have a huge problem with a class of so-called elites, the people who are wealthy, very wealthy in many cases and they are, as the Russians used to call certain individuals many, many years ago, rootless cosmopolitans,” he told the Serbian American Voters Alliance in an October 2021 speech uncovered by Matt Gertz at MediaMatters.
For those understandably unfamiliar with this terminology, “rootless cosmopolitans” is an anti-Semitic euphemism for Jews that was popularized under Stalin in the Soviet Union. Adolf Hitler also repeatedly referred to Jews as disloyal cosmopolitans, lamenting in his manifesto Mein Kampf that “it is no longer princes or their courtesans who contend and bargain about state frontiers, but the inexorable cosmopolitan Jew who is fighting for his own dominion over the nations.” In other words, there is exactly one type of person who uses this sort of language in everyday conversation.
In case his audience missed the point, though, Macgregor added: “They live above all of this, they have no connection to the country. There is nothing there that holds them in place, and they are largely responsible, in my judgment, for the condition that we are in today.”

Like many antisemites, he makes the mistake of calling them “rootless” cosmopolitans. This is a very outdated European concept.

The vast majority of all Jews exist in only two places now, the US and Israel. Israeli Jews are rather the “working class” of Jews, and though rather prosperous, are not the masters of the Universe of antisemitic fable. They are the Hobbits of their own Shire, like any small nation-state.
Jews as a class of persons with international significance are now almost exclusively American, extremely “rooted” in the New York-California milieu. Some are “rooted” in London, but much less so. They aren’t really cosmopolitan at all either, but quite parochial.

He has been vastly wrong. He has made lots of claims and predictions, on the imminent collapse of the Ukrainian state, on the isolation of Kiev, on the fall of Kiev, on the taking of Odessa, of Kharkov, on the surrounding of Ukrainian forces East of the Dneiper, the impossibility of retaking Kherson, and on and on.
The man has a very limited mind. He was a good commander of a US tank battalion. But he has never been the sort of person who Napoleon would have made a Marshal.
I have spent a lifetime “educating myself”. Before I downsized to move abroad the size of my library was a point of friction with my wife. Why did I need three boxes of books on opera? Or five on development economics? I did go down from @4000 volumes to 500.
And you have no depth, no range, no experience of affairs, of the world, of scholarship, of history. Outside of Russian propaganda you have nothing at all to say.
