Texans could have a dark, cold Christmas if an Arctic blast headed east continues its path.
Texas suffered a massive power grid failure in February 2021 after three severe winter storms and frigid temperatures stressed the grid. The grid's failure resulted in millions of Texans losing power, leading to a lack of food, water and warmth. The failure proved fatal, and hundreds died because of the outage. The failure dealt a blow to the economy as well, resulting in a loss of at least $195 billion.
Since the 2021 power grid failure, other uncharacteristic storms have hit the Lone Star State, but none have threatened the grid to the same extent. According to one meteorologist, that could change by Christmas.
WCNC Meteorologist Brad Panovich shared a forecast depicting temperatures for the next two weeks. Much of Texas will be subject to much colder than normal temperatures for several days over Christmas.
"The bigger story going forward is the Arctic blast that moves into the west first then pushing east for Christmas," Panovich tweeted. "The Texas Grid is going to be tested again."

Hopefully not as bad as last year.
Hopefully not as bad as last year.
People live in Texas to get away from the ice and snow.
Hint: coal burns very hot.
Corruption in Texas?! Never!
Just fire up a few more windmills. Problem solved.
Hope is not a plan.
What have the grid operators done in the past two years to improve grid reliability and resilience?
The libs better charge their Teslas when they still have a chance.
Uncharacteristic storms —————because-—— glow bull warming/climate change. Right climmunists?. ❄😳
I’ve activated emergency response resources ahead of severe storms expected across Texas starting today & continuing into tomorrow.
Please heed guidance from emergency personnel & remain weather-aware.
Stay safe, Texas.

Shut down coal fired power plants.
They’ve never heard of “Blue Northers”?
The looney left would love nothing more. They live for criticizing GOP states.
Uh, maybe south of a line from SanAn to Houston. The rest of the state eats snow and ice regularly every winter. I was snowed in, in the big Hill Country storm 2010 -- no complaints, it was beautiful.
Liberals touched the grid.
And another well understood and very SCIENCE oriented, formerly reliable system was destroyed. I hope that any Texans who suffer from this will find the leftist perps and do with them what they may. Be sure to remove all evidence. Those of us with morals will not see or say anything. Think of it as a service to civilizaiton.
“Hint: coal burns very hot.”
True, but all power plants need water, and if the input pipes are not insulated that water freezes and the plant stops.
That was the core problem in 2021.
There’s decades of work to be done just on distribution and transmission.
I’m sure generation is terrible with respect to permitting and government allowing new facilities.
Our workforce is undermanned and old. Problems will continue going forward.
That would be a “negative improvement” ...
That wouldn't be the response from what I can tell from having been in Texas now for 4+ years. This isn't your grandparent's Texas anymore.
Albertans never get snowed in, so that’s one good thing about our winters. Cold, basically averaging -10F to -18F for 13 weeks between November 15 to February 15, thereabouts. But there is a consistent warm-up until we have somewhere around 0C in March.
I tend to do a countdown to March 1 to get through my winter. I’m down to 73 days to March 1st
