a jury has now awarded the families of both men $80 million each because the club did not have enough security.

--In a civil lawsuit against Sony, a jury awarded the families a total of $160 million for the wrongful deaths of Ynoa and Diaz.

The families don’t think they will ever see the money because they say Sony never showed up to any of the court hearings.

“It just shows that some people don’t really care,” Frailan Ynoa said.

I am getting absolutely sick of these absurd jury awards, especially when based on a vague idea of what someone “should have done” and when what they “should have done” is not required by law.

This crap pisses me off.

It's not Sony's fault that thugs are gonna be thugs. Why should they have to cough up $160 million?

Implement enhanced security measures and people will cry racism. Don't implement them and people get killed because black "up and coming rappers" shoot each other for recreation.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I hope the families don't see a dime.

There should be zero liability on the part of the club, this needs to be appealed.

If you want to sue someone, sue the perp!

By this reasoning ANY victim of crime can sue the city or whatever for not providing a safe enough environment.

Sony eschewed the sham trial and will spend their attorney costs getting the verdict thrown out on appeal to a rational court.

People who are victims in every major US city should use the same argument... “Lack of security.”

“Every club where there’s gonna be a big event with hundreds of people or any amount of people, there should be metal detectors and high security systems that will show if someone brings in a weapon, knife or a gun because you know there’s gonna be people drinking and having fun and liquor can lead to a lot of things happening,”

Well! That about covers it.

If you throw a party you had better have metal detectors and body scanners.

In other words: If you can’t afford top of the line security you had better not throw a party.

I am a little conflicted on this jury award.

If the event had those no guns aloud postings then it was the responsibility of the host to provide security that was not permitted to the individual.

If you were permitted concealed carry at the event then I see no reason for this jury award.

Isn’t strange that in this modern age of inclusiveness and tolerance that people have come to expect that “you know there’s gonna be people drinking and having fun and liquor can lead to a lot of things happening”

For the last five years, the families have traveled to Atlanta from New York and Florida for candlelight vigils and court hearings. They are relieved that part is over and hope other nightclubs have learned from their tragedies.

Yes, the nightclubs are the problem not the culture of the people going to nightclubs for these types of these events. (And yes, I know that the nightclubs know what they're promoting for these types of events.)

I wish they would make friggin’ “juries” pay the money they award. I don’t think the ahos would be as generous with their own money as they are with other people’s money.

Frailan Ynoa. There’s a good old American name for you. Suing American gringos seems to be the number one priority of the freeloaders swimming across the Rio Grande.

One thing we know with certainty - Tyisha Fernandes is no journalist. She writes:

"The victims’ families did not stop fighting once they had a conviction."

Criminal convictions are secured by the state, acting on behalf of all of its citizens to enforce criminal law. That is why the case was almost certainly styled "The State of Georgia vs. Jonathan Bautista". That is your first clue. The families of the victims do not "have" a conviction - the People of the State of Georgia have the conviction.

If there was security and they foiled some killing by killing the bad guys…. The club would also be facing million dollar lawsuits…. Catch 22
