It was a decade that spawned the Sex Pistols and the Vietnam War, platform shoes and Saturday Night Fever.

The Seventies also gave us The Godfather and Space Hoppers but those glam rock years will forever live in the shadow of the Swinging Sixties.

Rockford Files is showing on YouTubeTV. I have it set to record. Its strange to see him light up a smoke every 10 minutes.

I can still listen to the Stones and Tom Petty every night. Never get old for me. A blessing, I know.

Yeah, I couldn’t do that either. Loved Phil.

Btw, just saw a TP&HB tribute band Friday night, the 16th, called “Southern Accents.” It was fun, but made me miss the real McCoy terribly. It was close, but oh, so far, at the same time. I love live music, though, so it was a nice change up from our usual vinyl collection listening experience.

Yes, the outbreak during the convention and the Pennhurst reporting are two distinct events. Shouldn’t have mixed it into the convo.

The 70s had the worst clothing ever…..no natural fibers just man made.

We had a hard time finding 100% cotton sheets.

I was counter culture when I had my kids. Women were back in the work force pretty well by then. My husband and I couldn’t justify me going back to work after each kid, cuz the cost of childcare meant I made very little money for the effort. Add a kid or two, and I was working for to pay for someone to take care of my kids. What I did was very frowned upon, but I devoted my life to my kids, their education, and their upbringing. I volunteered at their schools and at our church, and in our community. I was never paid a penny for any of that.

We didn’t have fancy cars, or even fancy clothes or “stuff”. I bought one new outfit for the kids each season, and the rest were second hand. I have been belittled many times over for my decision to stay at home while our children were young. People told me they couldn’t afford to stay home, that they had to work. All I can say is we sacrificed every single day so that I could be there when the kids were little, and when they got home from grade school. All the richer for it now.

Probably enjoyed Shania Twain a time or two, as well.

She mentioned short skirts, so reminded me of your post.

*** We have people on this forum who believe that journey is better bad Led Zeppelin***

Did you mean better *than* Led Zeppelin? If I understood you, then you are right, some people need reeducation camps, and if you think Journey is better than Led Zeppelin, then I disagree. I hope you just had a typo there.

I am back in the Orlando area now. My brother never left. The Tom Petty concert was at a local Jai Alai fronton. My brother saved the stub from that and every concert he ever attended, including from a Who concert in Las Vegas a few months ago. My guess is that Rick Harrison on Pawn Stars might offer him a hundred bucks for the lot, but they are priceless to my brother.

Exactly right.

When I was a kid, I lived in Orlando for a few years. I went back to visit about 40 years ago, and it was stunning, the difference. Can’t imagine what it’s like now. I also can’t believe that was nearly 40 years ago when I visited. I don’t think I’m that old yet.

I’m always glad to learn there’s another TP & the HBs fan out there. With the magic of XM radio, I get to hear his voice nearly every day. Even five years later, it doesn’t seem real.

My brother and I went on a brief shopping errand tonight. As usual, he had the Tom Petty channel on XM and was wearing a Tom Petty cap. My brother was in Tampa at one of Tom Petty's last concerts and thought that he looked ill and seemed to limp. That was due to a broken hip that never healed properly and led to Petty's accidental overdose on pain meds.

Orlando has changed dramatically, but many of the settled old residential neighborhoods have endured almost untouched -- except for a ten to fifteen times run up in home prices over fifty years. The old Orlando courthouse is now a history museum, with my father's old courtroom as it was decades ago.

I have my radio set to channel 31. It’s almost all I listen to. Occasionally I change to something else, but not often. I saw TP when he came through Indy in 2017. Amazingly, I had never been to one of his shows before. Not that I went to many concerts. I could never afford the tickets. But that year we sprang for them as an anniversary gift to each other. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, though like I said, I had only been to a select few in my life.

I doubt I would recognize the Orlando of my childhood, but then everything has grown and changed. They tell us it’s progress. I’m not so sure about that.

Many of the players did not wear helmets and were thus more recognizable both in person and on TV and that that was accompanied by that great deal less stickwork and elbowing and cheap shot offences that are so much more commonplace today.

I had a little crush on Bobby Clark. I loved his tousled curls. He didn’t wear a helmet.
