The composer of Jerusalem has been effectively ‘cancelled’ by the Royal College of Music (RCM) because his views on race a century ago are unacceptably offensive to today’s woke students, The Mail on Sunday understands.
Sir Hubert Parry is celebrated for his music to the words of the poet William Blake, and is a favourite of King Charles.
Three rooms at the elite college of which he was a director for almost a quarter of a century have long borne his name.

Jerusalem is the unofficial national anthem of England.
It is a disgrace that the heathen wogs are allowed to dictate to the native Britons.

My absolute favorite to hear sung, especially when people stand up and spontaneously help sing it. A well sung choir of all the people.
Not that I don’t love to sing along to the Star Bangled Banner, but the ubiquitousness of playing it before every sports game and assembly tends to make people not show as much patriotic fervor.
And whatever words offend the modern woke were written by Blake, not Sir Hubert.

(Gov't declaring misinformation is tyranny: “Who determines what false information is?” )
Jerusalem
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spear! Oh, clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Til we have built Jerusalem
In England’s green and pleasant land!

Can’t find any racism. Maybe a bit of Luddite, or nascent Green...

Ah yes! I remember buying and listening to
Brain Salad Surgery when I was a teenager. The album art was the best, as was
Karn evil 9 and
Benny the Bouncer.
But their Jerusalem was my introduction into William Blake. I actually went to the library and read Blake's The Complete Illuminated Books. I then hounded my college town bookstore to get me a copy, and spent my minimum wage salary for it.
I thought I was something of an artist then and tried to draw angels, demons and other heavenly figures Blake style.
BTW, I always thought Benny got a bad deal. Sid was a murdering thug!

I'm a big ELP fan and their version is riveting.
But in all candor, NOTHING beats the Monty Python version. Skip ahead to 3:18 and 4:18 to hear them sing, but the full sketch is worth it if you like their humor.

Being kept uninformed as to which “woke” students were being upset by Parry, and which individuals specifically are acting to “cancel” him, one should recall that any with positive sentiments to the religion of Islam should observe that Christians and Jews are pigs and dogs and “the worst of creatures.” Those with any allegiance to Marx should remember that Marx made racist remarks including using the “n” word. One should also recall that Debussy's piano work, “Le petit nègre” and the use of the little black servant at the end of Strauss’ Rosenkavalier not to mention Mozart's Monostatos character in Die Zauberflöte all may be attacked in similar manner and with similar methods. When classical music, Karl Marx and the Koran can be lumped together as offensive, that which remains not offensive will become an ever shorted list. And the snake eats its own tail. Being “woke” offends, is racist and antisemitic and so much more.
Happy New Year to those who still find happiness not to offend others.

Like today’s brain-dead effing retard “students” actually had enough education to know who the guy was...

Love ELP. Have you ever noticed the some of the most memorable and wonderful music and hits were made by 3 member rock bands?
ELP, ZZ Top, Rush, Cream, Genesis, Triumph, The Police and Grand Funk Railroad to name a few. There are many more.

Underneath the poem is the suggestion that Jesus brought Christianity to England, to enlighten and counter the ancient pagan religion of Celtic peoples, roughly AD 20-25, the, “Dark Satanic Mills”, that was referred to at the end of the first verse. A little bit of English mysticism… That the hope by Blake, and by extension, Parry for the Christian future of England.
That what the woke snowflake Communist “students” call racist.

Parry also wrote a melody for the hymn “Dear Lord and Father of Mankind,” although not the melody most of us are familiar with. The lyrics were written by John Greenleaf Whittier, a fiery abolitionist.
To: C19fan
If they’re cancelling Parry, then why the hell don’t they cancel Karl Marx, a racist who even used the “N” word?
To: C19fan
Jerusalem is the unofficial national anthem of England. That seems odd. I've heard "God Save The King" more times than anyone could count, but I have never heard a song called "Jerusalem."
