Unfortunately you can’t in many jurisdictions. A knife is better than nothing.
Pepper spray is probably better than a knife though. A knife requires training and skill.
I’ve been known to carry Bali song or butterfly knives. They’re very handy and just opening them is an effective deterrent for problems.
Glock 23 and two spare mags does me just fine.
