From streaming platform for half-baked reality dating shows to normalizing electric vehicles. When Netflix engages in shameless product placement, you can be sure it will at least be extra woke.
The left-wing steamer has entered a deal to feature General Motors’ electric vehicles in its original movies and TV series, providing the company with a new revenue stream while also burnishing its questionable credentials as a corporate climate crusader.
The campaign is also intended to serve as what one GM executive called a “blueprint” for Hollywood’s big push to normalize electric vehicles in the minds of consumers and to “accelerate the transition” away from gas-powered cars.
Netflix’s deal with GM will officially launch during the Super Bowl on February 12 with a commercial starring Will Ferrell who will reportedly drive a host of different GM electric vehicles through various Netflix shows, including Bridgerton, Squid Game, and Army of the Dead.
The streamer will place GM vehicles in its reality shows Love Is Blind and Queer Eye, as well as scripted shows, like the upcoming Rob Lowe comedy Unstable, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
GM’s chief marketing officer Deborah Wahl said the goal is to normalize electric vehicles in an effort to “accelerate the transition” away from gas-powered vehicles.
“I think you can see with this we’re working together to create a blueprint for the whole entertainment industry in how to think about normalizing EVs and showcasing this all-electric future, because we all know it’s good for all of us if we accelerate that transition,” she told the trade magazine.

It’s all one big Balinese shadow puppet show.
Nothing new. Companies have been doing this for many decades.

Not just companies. I know you’ve noticed how the product logos are always facing the camera. Cadies on the pro golf tour are coached to rotate the golf bags so that the logo/advertising is facing the cameras when they set the bag down.
Nothing new. Car companies have been supplying Hollywood cars for decades. Read the credits at the end of old TV shows, “Automobiles supplied by Ford Motor Company, GM Etc...............
Hollywood always disappoints. Why change?
There’s a big difference here. There’s product placement and then there’s this - a forced product.
Product placement.
“GM will officially launch during the Super Bowl on February 12 with a commercial starring Will Ferrell”
Not that I needed one more reason to never get an EV but that idiot just made the list.
Ferrell is a poor man’s Chevy Chase and Chase was a HACK.
Ferrell, jack black, Seth rogan.......how those unfunny amateurs get the gigs they do is beyond my understanding. SMH
To me, hybrids are actually a good solution for someone who has to drive in city traffic a lot. You can run on battery when you’re creeping along and sitting often then when you get out more suburban/highway areas, the gas engine can kick in for the best range and charge the battery.
At this time, and for the foreseeable future you have the issue of the range/charge time and impact of mining the raw material along with replacement cost.
Remember the bailouts GM got during the mortgage insurance implosion? That $ went to safeguard their oversees operations.
Don’t forget the potential for surprise spontaneous combustion!
Not really. Cars especially tend to get a bit goofy in their placements. I remember in the 1st season of Heroes when 2 characters flew into LA and drove in their rented Nissan Versa across the country, with lots and lots of beauty shots. Some show I was watching with the wife and the characters weren’t sure where they were going and one said “well put it into [brand of car’s] navigation system”, she joked that somebody got paid. It’s all pretty standard, cause the money guys negotiate it then tell the writers to make it happen.
propaganda by any other name is still...propaganda.
The Sopranos was full of product placement. What’s the favorite beer at the Yellowstone bunkhouse or about any bar in that show? Coors Banquet. What do the Yellowstone/good guys drive? Dodge Ram. What about “others” or bad guys? Ford F-150’s mostly.
One more reason to stay out of the netfix cesspool.
Yep, non story.
I’m tired enough of all the kissing homos and 1619 project garbage (Hulu) that I’m ready to dump them all.
Eff em.
