Prayers please. Barefoot and in shorts….. I went out to pickup in the garage to retrieve my I pad . Decided to get handgun also….out of the console between seats. Leaned in and got them. Leaning back out and dropped the gun. Landed on the concrete in garage. One in the chamber, not cocked, on safety, and in a holster. It discharged into my left leg about half way between ankle and knee. Broke both bones. I mean completely. Did not hit an artery.
Gun was a 90’s model Springfield 45. It is a P9 series, double/single action, but chambered in 45 caliber. Im in hospital. Suppose to do surgery tomorrow.
So I can cross shooting myself with my own 45 off my bucket list.
Yeah, it hurt bad. Legion of police showed up when wife called 911. Rough ambulance ride to the hospital. I dont recommend this.
Appreciate all prayers. Thank you
Dang! Broke both bones you say I pray that they can fix it but it’s going to be a long recovery time and one leg may be shorter than the other.
I would rather be shot in the other leg than have to go thru the post accident bru-HA-HA with the cops. Thank God there was a minimum of adrenaline flowing for the situation. Thanks for your humbleness to post this. We all learn from it.
Prayers Up!

I’m glad to see that your sense of humor is intact. Lots of prayers your way! Stuff happens, I’m glad it wasn’t life threatening but the pain had to be horrific.
There is always a fella (or gal) with the answer at FR.
Good call.
Thanks for doing what most might want to avoid due to the potential “I told you so’s”.
Very important info only available due to your humility on the issue.
Prayers for a quick recovery and minimal aftereffects.
My only contribution would be related to two hands on the subject weapon instead of laptop and weapon. No one is going to drop a laptop to try and catch a dropped weapon. With two hands available the focus would be on the gun.
You know, usually we just go with a boating accident.
Get better.
We all have close calls. You took it one step further. Anyway, glad you’re in good spirits and God be with you and your healing.
Prayers and hopes for better luck in the future...and some good painkillers.
[Marking Springfield P9 off of my want-want list.]
Thanks for your honest candor with your STUPID accident. Yeah, stuff happens. There but the grace of God...
Be careful out there. Prayers.
No matter how many safety feature are employed on a firearm, NO gun is “drop safe”.
Safety features are mechanical, so they can, will, and do malfunction.
Why did so many police show up?
Oh my. Nightmare scenario. Prayers up for a speedy recovery.
Most likely because it was a gunshot wound. Anytime someone comes in with a gunshot a hospital is required to report it. The police have to determine if a crime was committed as opposed to an accident.
I have that same handgun. It’s not my favorite. The Kimber is better. Prayers up!

just damn... prayers up
Oh no, prayers for a quick recovery, FRiend!
Not a problem - it’s an easy mistake to make, compounded by the fact that Springfield does also make a shortened 9mm 1911 variant called the EMP9. The similar naming doesn’t really help.
Springfield’s EMP9 pistol is not related - the P9 hasn’t been made since 94ish and it was not a sales success. The similarly named EMP9 is a 1911 variant instead of being a CZ-75 clone like the P9.
