Since there’s no such thing as warp drive , Star drives, or any of that stuff seen in sci if, big slow ships, generational ships, seems to be the way to cross the vast distances of space. There’s no reason to think that aliens would be way more advanced than us just because they come from another planet.

I would imagine not all alien species have invented faster than light travel. Maybe some only have the capability to accelerate to a percentage of the speed of light, and there’s various ways of doing that - solar sail, ram scoop, etc.

IF it were of alien design it would likely not house alien creatures but rather serve as a probe.
