My question: How secure is the U.S. supply of psychotropics in the face of major disruptions? Here, I'm referring to issues of supply chain--and also major economic upheavals (war, hyperinflation, etc.). I'm having problems finding current sources. Also--understandably-- more focus is on disease-fighting drugs; but I'm afraid a sudden crash in psychotropics could be much more serious than expected.
Might be a sudden drop in school shootings, since all the shooters since Columbine were on them.
Just like nearly everything else, expect shortages, then rationing, then complete unavailability unless you are among the elite.
Unrelated to psychotropics, BOTH of my blood pressure meds (nothing exotic) have been ‘temporarily unavailable’ every time I have tried to get refills in the last 5 months. Usually takes two weeks until they get more, and sometimes I only get half of the quantity of the prescription.
But hey, on the bright side, concerning psychotropics, a lot of places are legalizing ‘magic mushrooms’, so at least you got that goin’ for ya.
Hubby and I have been having trouble getting our ADHD meds for months now. WTF is going on? The pharmacies keep giving vague answers and they’re different every time we ask. 🤬

My son has been running into the same problem obtaining his ADD meds. There has been no talk of the situation improving.
My psychotropic supply is triple distilled and bottled in Ireland. No supply problems at this time. My secondary item is San Pedro cactus which grows pretty much anywhere and requires little assistance.
I hear ya. Since I can’t drink the amber stuff for some reason (in spite of my Irish heritage), my psychotropic is quadruple distilled and bottled in Poland and goes quite nicely with a little club soda and a lime wedge.
I’m a pharma tech in Chicagoland. Tons of drugs are on backorder, which currently include basically all drugs for ADHD, Xanax, Cefdinir and some similar antibiotics, and intermittently both Epi-Pens and drugs for diabetes, specifically Ozempic.
There’s the issue of the manufacturers not being able to keep up with demand in regards to the ADHD meds, and as far as I know, there’s a lawsuit ongoing out of OK against a manufacturer. I wouldn’t want to withdraw fom Adderall, and people can’t get their meds now.
Ozempic was briefly being given to fatties just for weight loss as opposed to actual diabetics for whom it is life-saving. Adderall was too, as both will suppress appetites. Adderall and Vyvanse are also WAY overprescribed to people who don’t need it, and so people who do need it can’t get it.
It’s why I keep a surplus of my meds when I can. You never know.
I believe, personally, China is witholding precursor chemicals and giving us the finger, both to tens to their own population and cause us chaos. I think we should be friendlier with India, personally. They make so many drugs as it is and are already having problems with China. The enemy of my enemy.
Hubby and I are on Dexedrine, altho my Walgreens pharmacist tried to convince me to switch to Adderall last summer “because they’re basically the same thing.” Except they’re not, you moron. Hubby was diagnosed 31 yrs ago and I was diagnosed in 2016. There were a lot of online diagnoses and prescriptions handed out during CoVID which is certainly contributing to the shortage. 😖
That’s my take.
Try to quit or try something else like caffeine.
Do adults need some of these or are they a crutch?
If a shortage of Black Tea happens - I’m going on a rampage..
