Barista Calls Out Her Manager For Preferring To Hire Workers Without Tattoos Or Piercings — 'How Does This Affect My Ability To Make Coffee?'

Stigmas and prejudices often stop people with tattoos from being hired but this worker is done with the unfair treatment.

A woman is calling out her former boss for preferring to hire people who don't have any tattoos or piercings.

In a TikTok video, Ellie, who worked as a barista, explained that while working at a cafe, she ran into issues with her boss surrounding the idea of employees being hired who didn't have a clean-cut look about them.

"We had to read all their handbooks, and they do allow tattoos as long as they're not on your face or neck," she revealed. "But there's no nose rings." Ellie herself has tattoos on her arms, and a nose ring in.

She continued, saying that the management allowed her to keep her nose ring in while she was working, but still ran into some snide comments being said by her manager.

"The manager was talking and had to interview some people and was like, 'I interviewed this candidate and she didn't even have any tattoos or nose rings like I'm so excited.'" After hearing that, Ellie pointed out that she works as a barista, who is more than likely getting paid minimum wage.

Sure. Although there is a major difference between 2-3 stone too fat and obese. One is a typical westerner; the other a mental disorder.

I’m a naturally fat guy who stays super lean due to my job requirements. (I already have to get a waiver for ejection seat due to being too tall.) I work out a lot and don’t eat when I need to. Often sucks. But it’s discipline.

Physical presence matters, cupcake. Like with a receptionist in an office.

Why would anyone want a troll facing the public?

however, it does depend upon the tatts. If a little flower or “Mom”, fine. All others must be covered up.

Source of much of the pathology of the over-tatted - look at me, it's all about me.

That's probably true for many, but the folks I've met who are covered in tattoos are generally hurt and the tattoos are a wall.

True, I went to an automobile dealership for a high end car. The salesman who was selling me had tattoos on his sleeves and fingers. I called another dealership and the salesman was as good as the other, but if he did have tattoos, I didn’t see them. It was $2500 more, but I thought it was worth it.

no tattoos on face or neck was the only rule. if piercings are confined to nose or ear, and not excessive, then OK. Some people need to chill,

I hear you. I can’t actually tell how much a person weighs - but if you look like you could be hiding a misplaced three week old ham and cheese sandwich between rolls of fat I won’t be hiring you to sell food for my business.

Exactly, people with tattoos and piercings are more likely to have hepatitis or other diseases. Would they be willing to get tested before hiring? Also, it’s very unappetizing to be served by someone with visible things sticking in their body.

Obesity and tattoos are a real hoot.

I have to laugh at how many fat women I see with tattoos on their huge legs. Do they think it makes up for being so overweight?

It used to be that “tat” ink had a metal-based pigment in them. I don’t know if that’s still true. Assuming it is an MRI would be quite an interesting experience for them.

Amongst servers I’d rather see tats than long fake nails with all the bacteria in all the nooks, crannies and crevices.

Ick.

A WW2 sailor pointed to the blob on his arm that was once a tattoo.
The sailor said don’t make this mistake

Also HATE the 4 inch fingernails......

AMEN to that ! Why women wear those horrible looking claws is beyond me - very unattractive. I cringe everytime I see a commercial for the Jennifer Hudson show.

‘How Does This Affect My Ability To Make Coffee?’

You’re in a service business and people don’t want to look at you.

Yes, I see it everywhere here too

Also see the also-ran 40+ women who are looking for husband #2,3, or 4 who get the little wrist and ankle tats thinking it makes them look younger or more hip

I don’t care so much about people making bad choices for they own body, but if it’s something that I might eat or drink, it matters to me. Also applies to any medical person.

It’s a sign of antisocial tendencies and possible personality disorder, and it’s a sign that is clear enough for everyone to understand subconsciously.

That might be okay if she were in a back room away from the public making the coffees, but if she has any interaction with the customers, then it’s relevant.

I don’t mind if a girl has a small rose near the ankle...or a man w/ something small on a shoulder. But more than that...nope.
People will post about having an arm “sleeved,” completely tattooed. ugh
