Trump is a hack
Vanity

Posted on 04/05/2023 3:45:32 PM PDT by bigdaddy45

So I just saw the Trump commercial re: Desantis. He accuses Desantis of wanting to cut Medicare funding among other things. All dark and foreboding in black and white (of course). And here's my favorite part: "Desantis even voted to raise the retirement age to 70"!!

Anyone even halfway responsible who looks at the Social Security trust fund numbers knows the retirement age will have to be lifted. Americans are living longer. There's no other option. Well, there is one other option -- raising SS taxes and/or raising or eliminating the income cap. Both Democrat solutions.

Of course Trump has no proposed solution to this problem. He just promises us a "big beautiful Social Security System" with no details as to how that will happen, and takes shots at anyone having the courage to vote for real solutions. For those of us who are small government conservatives (which used to constitute the majority of Free Republic), Trump is showing his true feathers as just another big government Democrat. Which he used to be.

Solving our fiscal problems and at least slowing down our journey to the financial cliff will require straight talk and courage. When it comes to the budget, Trump has demonstrated neither. The deficit continued to skyrocket during his tenure, and he couldn't sign the stimulus checks fast enough. He even baited Biden because his checks weren't as big as Trump's were.

So if you believe in smaller government and fiscal restraint, and are a Trump supporter, you're being played. He's just trying to buy your vote with your money like the rest of them. In other words, he's the latest in a long line of Presidents who are no-courage hacks.

Of course his supporters will come out of the woodwork throwing rocks. They won't refute or debate any of these points. They'll just rant about MAGA this or Desanctimonious that. They are so firmly entrenched in the Cult of Trump they can't see past the lips firmly planted on his ass.

If he’s all hat and no cattle then why are the Dems so afraid of him? The 2 impeachments constant media attacks and now a slew of phony criminal charges. This is an unprecedented attack against a presidential candidate. If Trump wasn’t a threat to elite interests why would they go to so much trouble to get rid of him?

Considering that SS and Medicare are the two largest government expenditures, you’d think the constitution would only have two lines in it:

The government shall provide retirement.

The government shall provide medical insurance for the elderly.

Americans aren’t living longer. The truth— if you invested every penny paid into SS in a modest index fund instead you would be far better off... as a high earner, for me the difference is absurd. So stop pushing the lies; SS is a bloated inefficient program that gives make work jobs to fed employees and a slush fund to politicians. That is why it is broke.

The last candidate who ran on a platform like that won 61% of the vote and 520 electoral votes.

*************

Didn’t that candidate get “Watergated?”

Also, isn’t that President constantly bashed on Free Republic for being a liberal and setting in motion every bad trend both foreign & domestic?

"Thanks for making my point."

The only point, is the one on the top of your head. For some reason you seem to expect Trump to be some super hero who can work miracles in four years, when no one who served longer before him, even bothered to attempt to tackle the problem, not even past Congresses. You're giving every previous President, Republican and Democrat a pass for doing nothing either. The biggest looming issue of the day is that our borders are not secure, and we've been invaded by illegals we know nothing about. We've got runaway inflation, billions of dollars are being sent to pay Ukraine pensions, while Congress does nothing about Social Security, and hasn't for many years, and Democrats are doing everything they can to destroy people's retirement savings. You seem to be more worried about a program that's been a Ponzi scheme from the time of its inception, than the other threats facing people here every day. Most people can't even afford to buy groceries anymore without using their credit cards. The economy is seriously bad, and all you can complain about is that Trump did nothing about Social Security? Are you better off today than your were four years ago? Is the country better off today than it was four years ago?

I've never heard Trump say he doesn't support the currency being backed by gold.

It was backed by gold when JFK was president.

Then Nixon took the U.S. currency off of the gold standard in 1971, but it remained the world's currency, backed only by the faith & credit of the U.S. Once it was taken off of the gold standard, spending went crazy.

Very good article by Forbes:

The Gold Standard Ended 50 Years Ago. Federal Debt Has Only Exploded Since

Keep in mind, that the president does not set the spending, Congress does that. All a president can do is a ask for or request, a reduction in spending, he has no control over that whatsoever. So, don't go blaming Trump for the debt.

Social Security is actually well funded, Medicare not so much.

There is no bigger threat than Marxism in this country. NONE. Everything else flows out of it.

“Trump wants to rid the GOP of anyone to the right of McConnell.“

Well that’s just ridiculous. That said, I really dislike Trump going dirty on DeSantis. He’s the best Governor in the country. We don’t need Trump helping the rats by tearing him down this way. Trump has a near 20 point lead there is no need for this. If it was close it would be more understandable l still would not like it.

Paul Begala could brought on as Trump’s campaign manager at this point and his followers would declare it was a stroke of tactical genius

Yes. Go directly at it. It's working in the red states. There are so many wavering liberals like my Dad, who are dealing with the fact that their party is now led by reds. They MIGHT vote for DeSantis. Doubt they would vote for Trump.

Flemming v. Nestor says welcome to reality. SS is just a tax and welfare scheme. You are at the mercy of Congress and scarcity. Got news for you, scarcity along with debasement will be kicking our ass soon which means being in the General Fund does not mean a hill of beans. In fact, putting SS in the general fund was a move to fool idiots in “general”. At least the trust fund fluff had a little bit of integrity attached to the monetary supplement.
