College track star arrested after knives, tactical vest, empty ammo boxes discovered in dorm room

A college student in Minnesota has been arrested after prosecutors say they found evidence that he was "planning a mass casualty event."

On April 5, custodians at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, discovered empty boxes which once contained ammunition and high-capacity magazines in a garbage can outside one of the dorms. The custodians alerted authorities, who reportedly traced the packages to a dorm resident, 20-year-old sophomore Waylon Kurts, a member of the St. Olaf track team.

In Kurts' dorm room, investigators allegedly discovered a trove of weapons and tactical gear, including knives, a protective vest, propane, fireworks, information about local radio frequencies, a lock pick set, and firearm earmuffs and magazines, though no actual firearms.

They also allegedly found several notebooks detailing Kurts' plans to steal additional ammunition from Walmart as well as a map of the St. Olaf campus, where Kurts noted various entry and exit points at a recreational facility.

One section of the notebook even discussed the best places to aim for on the human body. "Shoot a person in 3 areas: Upper thorasic [sic], T-zone on face, Pelvis is a good target," Kurts wrote, according to the criminal complaint. "7/10 people shot with handguns survive. Shoot a lot," he allegedly wrote elsewhere.

In subsequent searches of his phone and vehicle, police say they discovered that Kurts had a co-conspirator. In one particularly disturbing text, Kurts reportedly sent the individual a picture of a campus bench with the message "Kids’ve got no idea what's in here, haha."

This is right out of the movie “Minority Report.” This guy is guilty of “Pre-Crime.” He has potentially dangerous things.

A lot of Americans have a garage full of potentially dangerous things: hammers, SkilSaws, chain saws, chisels, axes, splitting mauls, picks, shovels, box cutters, lawnmower blades(as used quite effectively by Karl Childers in “Sling Blade”)...the list is endless.

The propane and fireworks were no doubt against the rules to have in a dorm room. Back in college they had lockers at Campus Security for us to store our guns. Although after the second trip down there during hunting season it got to be too much of a hassle so I just kept them under my bed.

The notebook is the scariest thing they found imho.

Ammo at Walmart is under lock and key. How does one steal that?

According to the article it takes a written plan. Must be complicated.....................

https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/st-olaf-college-student-waylon-kurts-charged-after-cache-found-in-dorm/

“Kurts’ attorney, Paul Rogosheske, said Kurts ‘has some things that look funny,’ but said there is nothing that poses a threat to anyone, according to a Star Tribune report. Rogosheske said his client is a hunter who shoots a lot, and pointed out that there were no guns or ammunition taken from Kurts’ room or vehicle. He said Kurts drew the map for someone else.

‘This is a conspiracy charge. There was no gun or ammunition found. We will let the process play out and, in the end, my client will be vindicated,’ Rogosheske said.

Northfield Police Chief Mark Elliott said authorities are trying to determine what, if anything, Kurts had in mind. But County Attorney Kathryn M. Burbank said that they believe Kurts was trying to target the Skoglund-Tostrud building, which is a recreational facility on campus, and that the evidence they’ve gathered from his dorm room suggests he was not alone in planning a mass casualty event.”

ELCA school...

............

St. Olaf’s is a small, highly ranked private liberal arts school about an hour or so south of Minneapolis.

It’s in the same town as Carleton College, which is where the late US Senator Paul Wellstone was from.

Olaf’s is nominally Lutheran, and has a great University choir; but they’re both batsh*t leftist. Rich kids from Edina who don’t get into Ivy League schools go there or to Macalester in St. Paul...

True... it is a liberal school. It is possible a girlfriend took offense at him not being woke enough to be vegan and being into hunting and shooting and turned him in to get back at him for being mean to deer.

Drawing of the building with entrances marked could just be directions for a freshman.

On the other hand, his “ accomplice” could be an FBI provocateur.
