Roger Waters says he's heading to Frankfurt, Germany, despite the local authority’s attempt to ban his concert.
The Pink Floyd legend's Frankfurt tour stop, planned for May 23, was canceled by the city council amid accusations that Waters is antisemitic. He’d called the move “unjustifiable” and last month said he’d instructed his lawyers to fight the cancellation, along with another in Munich on May 21.
After noting that the deadline for the city to respond to his interim injunction had passed, Waters' new message continued: “Not that it matters much! We’re coming anyway! Because human rights matter! Because free speech matters!” Referring to the Nazi attacks on Jews across Germany on Nov. 9, 1938, it added: “We remember Kristallnacht! Like Sophie Scholl our fathers stood with those 3,000 Jewish men, and today we stand with the Palestinians!” Noting a new date, the message ended: “We’re coming to Frankfurt on the 28th of May!”
At the time of the cancellations Waters issued a statement, condemning them as “unconstitutional, without justification and based upon the false accusation that Roger Waters is antisemitic, which he is not.” His position was later supported in a petition to have the shows reinstated, signed by a wide range of artists including Nick Mason, Eric Clapton and Tom Morello.
I can tell you David Gilmour did not sign that petition.

I noted when I watched ‘Das Boot’, while they show the Nazi flags, they are never unfurled to the point where you actually see the Swastika.
Waters is far from being a Nazi.
I disagree with Roger on a lot of things, but I do respect him, in that he does put his money where his mouth is, unlike most idiot celebrities who just spout off stuff just to sound “hip”.
He believes the Jews caused his father to die in WWII, not the Germans.
His dad was killed fighting nazis. And while he is anti-zionist/Israel, that in itself isn’t anti-semitic. It’s not too bright, but he opposes Israel because he sees it as an apartheid regime.
Germans are strage and should never be allowed the keys to a government. They unleashed Prussian Bureaucracy, Communism and Nazism on the world.
They really need to spend another century or two just making Bratwurst, electronics, Beer, cars, and Cuckoo Clocks.
No, that was him portraying the drugged-up performer who imagined being a Nazi-type leader, before finally ‘tearing down the wall’.

I think he sees it more as a Communist, in that Capitalism caused the war.
What’s interesting to note is that before Hitler invaded the Soviet Union, a lot of our ‘isolationists’ were in fact Communists who were told by Moscow not to get involved in the “Imperialist War”. Of course that all changed once Hitler invaded the Soviet Union.
Yeah, they pretty much hate each other. Amazing how many of the top musical groups can barely stand each other. Something about creative competition between arrogant high achievers and focused bitterness, steeped in dope produces some amazing things.
The other thing is, he makes the main character "pink," transparently based on himself. So, who would make a character, based on himself, a wannabe Nazi-type leader?
So Waters himself thinks he's a wannabe Nazi. If he thinks so, why should I disagree?

I got some news for you sunshine, a lot of Jews hate Israel.
Before the war, there were two camps of Jews. The Zionists, and the Socialist Bund Jews. The Socialist Bund Jews despised the idea of a Jewish State, because it implied that all Jews must live there, instead of spreading themselves across the globe and spreading world socialism.
Now that’s not to say they were fans of Soviet-style ‘Bolshevism’ neither. We know Stalin in fact was no fan of Jewish people.
The wall promotes Nazis? You missed that by a -wide- mark. It is clearly about stuffy British control freak caged soul-crushing society. Teachers and mothers get special attention.

He is simply bitterly, if understandably, vehemently anti-war. It practically screams through his work. The wall, the final cut, his opposition to the middle east wars, refusal to treat Israelis with kid gloves, his opposition to NATO and to Putin. His opposition to the Falklands war, his 80s anti-nuke positions.
You may not agree with him, but even a cursory glance at his work and interviews shows him to be utterly opposed to war. He is a lotta things, but he’s not a nazi symapthyzer.
