Roger Waters says he's heading to Frankfurt, Germany, despite the local authority’s attempt to ban his concert.
The Pink Floyd legend's Frankfurt tour stop, planned for May 23, was canceled by the city council amid accusations that Waters is antisemitic. He’d called the move “unjustifiable” and last month said he’d instructed his lawyers to fight the cancellation, along with another in Munich on May 21.
After noting that the deadline for the city to respond to his interim injunction had passed, Waters' new message continued: “Not that it matters much! We’re coming anyway! Because human rights matter! Because free speech matters!” Referring to the Nazi attacks on Jews across Germany on Nov. 9, 1938, it added: “We remember Kristallnacht! Like Sophie Scholl our fathers stood with those 3,000 Jewish men, and today we stand with the Palestinians!” Noting a new date, the message ended: “We’re coming to Frankfurt on the 28th of May!”
At the time of the cancellations Waters issued a statement, condemning them as “unconstitutional, without justification and based upon the false accusation that Roger Waters is antisemitic, which he is not.” His position was later supported in a petition to have the shows reinstated, signed by a wide range of artists including Nick Mason, Eric Clapton and Tom Morello.
Waters came up with the idea, based on an incident that happened during the “Animals” tour when he spit on a fan.
He realized that he had become so detached from the audience, and that he had built his own personal “Wall”. At least that’s the way he tells it.
Yes, after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed, they became what Edward G. Robinson called "Communinazis." Including Woody Guthrie. Lillian Hellman was kicked out of the Communist Party, because she wrote Watch on the Rhine. Communist protests against the "fascist FDTR." Of course that all changed once Hitler invaded the Soviet Union.
Actually, it took a week or two. Stalin isolated himself after the invasion in depression. Since he micromanaged the U.S. communist party, they couldn't change their beliefs until he directed.
Oh?
Israel is historic Judah. To be “anti-Zionist” is to be against the Jews having their homeland.
bad read
How far, exactly?
Of course this is another myth that the Left has taught over the years, that only Hitler-loving Right-Wingers were Isolationist.
The Final Cut is Roger’s manifesto
But he is anti-Semitic. He had a concert with a giant pig with a Star of David on it. Not an Israeli flag, a Star of David. That makes it clear his problem is with Jews, not Israel.
His dad was killed fighting nazis.
Maybe you should remind him of that. But apparently he believe Britain was only fighting Germans to rescue Jews. He blames WWII on Jews.
I think you missed what I said. I said being anti-zionist or anti Israel is NOT necessarily anti-semitic. I was thinking of that very subset of Jews who theologically do not think the 1948 created entity is the “Israel” of yore.
There are a lot of flavors of Judaism,
Waters is an antisemetic drunkard. As he wants to destroy the 6.9 million Jews in Israel and heaven knows where else, he certainly is a Nazi. His music is not as good as Richard Wagner’s anyway.
He’s ant—wa in some ways. He is against World War II. But he believes Britain and the Jews caused it - not the Germans.
You need to read. There are even Jews that do not agree with zionism or even the current Israel as a concept. They are not antisemitic.
Also it cannot be a standard that not being anti-semitic means you support the nation state of Israel without fail.
That is the zone I think Waters falls into. He dislikes them because they often fall into abusive repression such as their covid rules. He also opposes the wall the Israelis just built.
And of course, he would oppose a “wall”, wouldn’t he?
He portrays HIMSELF “Pink” as a Nazi.
Wait, so if some Jews hate Israel, we all have to?
OK, and use your critical thinking skills. In that artistic persona, they build a huge wall. And then what was their conclusion of what should happen to that authoritarian wall?
You should probably avoid being a music and art critic.
But you can’t explain how. Show me one other rock star who portrays himself as a Nazi.
LOL, I despise him. I do hope they arrest his ass and throw him in jail for Naziism.
I used to love music by Pink Floyd. I listened to their work all the time.
Back in 2004, I went to a Roger Waters concert. I was in a large group of 10-15 people, all good friends.
In retrospect, I should have seen what was coming, but...I didn’t.
It turned into a 3 hour political audiovisual tirade against Bush, neocons, conservatives and Israel, with some music mixed in. It looked like Code Pink put together the slide and video shows they had going on.
I didn’t want to ruin the evening for the people I went with, but I was steaming mad. I grit my teeth and sat there. At the end of the “concert”, they released a 40 foot high ballon of a pig with “F*ck Bush” on one side and “Vote Democrat” on the other.
I have been unable to listen to any Pink Floyd music since then. It STILL pisses me off.
I think you have the wrong guy
