Lawyers met Wednesday morning in San Francisco Superior Court to set a trial date for the man who allegedly broke into U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home and beat her 82-year-old husband in October.
David DePape, who was not present in court, has already pleaded not guilty to six charges, including attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary, elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and threatening a family member of a public official.
No trial date was set, the defense requested and was granted more time to prepare. They will return to court on June 14 to set a trial date.

In December 2022, a judge ruled that prosecutors had presented enough evidence during a preliminary hearing to move forward.
DePape is being held at the San Francisco County Jail.

There are facts that would come out at trial. Facts the Pelosi’s don’t want known.
So they delay.
How likely is it that this will just slip away . . .
The Sixth Amendment provides rights and protections to people accused of crimes. These include the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury; the right to be informed of the charges; the right to confront adverse witnesses, and the right to counsel.
It was a quaint idea, but it seems to be gone.
There will be no trial. Too many embarrassing things would come out.
So take your pick:
A. DePape will “commit suicide” in his jail cell. Poor guy.
B. DePape will take some sort of plea deal, and then be deported. So let’s all move on now.
C. DePape will plead guilty to a felony, and serve time. Many dollars will await him when he is released.
I’m a betting man. But I will not bet here. Each possibility seems equally likely.
I’m thinking nancy won’t prevent the trial from taking place now because she is no longer in public office. What will she care if the public knows her husband was having a little fun and it went bad?
Did you notice how fast the networks and papers totally stopped covering it? To please nancy.

Fix? Of course not. After all, Democrats believe in democracy, the law, and ....er....folks with quite a list of mental problems.
