Also, if you go through the Stargate during a solar flare, you could end up back in 1969.
Interesting piece. I thought of the story Inconstant Moon, by Larry Niven, in which the full moon over Los Angeles is unusually bright one night...
I would like that....................I was 14................
We’re Doomed!!!
I think of that often......but, I am weird. I should have been born in th 1800s
One of my kids is an engineer as NASA. During Cleese he was a data technician for a solar observatory satellite mission.
He tracked a massive solar flare that blasted off into space.
That photo was published pretty widely.
You didn’t mention the failure that would cause the end of the world as we know it most quickly: the internet.
Without the internet, the EBT system goes down and after the ferals rob and loot all the food out of the grocery stores in a few days, they will take it from whoever has it. You preppers think you’re ahead of the game but tell you what, you can’t resist a hungry mob that outnumbers you a hundred-fold or more.
Our enemies know this, and the only thing that stops them is it would result in such a mess to clean up no one dares use an EMP weapon. Killing the internet is the new neutron bomb - it would wipe out all human life in short order and no amount of preparation or buried caches of books will stop it.
THIS is why all FReepers should keep a minimal supply of firewood, potable water or the means to filter it, canned food and a basic garden. And of course, guns. A “Carrington Event” in 2023 would be a serious headache.
FReepmail me for details.
Hillary started it by paying for a fake dossier; Obama was on the other end with the phony FISA apps. The FBI were their tools. Coup leaders belong in prison.
That’s nothing. Just wait until the peak of the galactic current sheet gets here.
The sun could flick us out of existence at any time.
Some distance star could go supernova and a beam of cosmic rays would kill all life on earth.
Just use a good sunscreen...
Monty Python - Galaxy song
Everybody lives on a street in a city
Or a village or a town for what it’s worth
And they’re all inside a country which is part of a continent
That sits upon a planet known as Earth
And the Earth is a ball full of oceans and some mountains
Which is out there spinning silently in space
And living on that Earth are the plants and the animals
And also the entire human race
It’s a great big universe
And we’re all really puny
We’re just tiny little specks
About the size of Mickey Rooney
It’s big and black and inky
And we are small and dinky
It’s a big universe and we’re not
And we’re part of a vast interplanetary system
Stretching seven hundred billion miles long
With nine planets and a sun; we think the Earth’s the only one
That has life on it, although we could be wrong
Across the interstellar voids are a billion asteroids
Including meteors and Halley’s Comet too
And there’s over fifty moons floating out there like balloons
In a panoramic trillion-mile view
And still it’s all a speck amid a hundred billion stars
In a galaxy we call the Milky Way
It’s sixty thousand trillion miles from one end to the other
And still that’s just a fraction of the way
Cause there’s a hundred billion galaxies that stretch across the sky
Filled with constellations, planets, moons and stars
And still the universe extends to a place that never ends
Which is maybe just inside a little jar
It’s a great big universe
And we’re all really puny
We’re just tiny little specks
About the size of Mickey Rooney
Though we don’t know how it got here
We’re an important part here
It’s a big universe and it’s ours!
Animaniacs, not Monty Python.
A Eric Idle song, so close.
Giant sunspot grew 10 times wider than Earth in just 48 hours, then spat X-class flare right at us
