This is Newt Gingrich defending President George Bush 41 on the bill that raised taxes called the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990. In all fairness to Newt, he and all but 10 Republicans voted against it, but listen to the way he defends Bush. It is the same as people defending the GOP today. This interview occurred on the Bob Grant Show on 10/25/1990. The bill was passed on 11/5/1990.

All these “reconciliation” Bills, and nothing ever gets reconciled.

One of President Trump’s greatest effect was showing how much the politicians are controlled by the Media and the deep state.

The debt ceiling was eliminated for two years so there is no restraint on spending. Cuts in spending were promised. Let’s see if the spending cuts actually happen or if the spending spree continues with the debt ceiling suspended.

Promises are meaningless in Washington.

Stockholm syndrome.

No. It's a football game between two in town prepschool teams, where the kids and moms and dads are all friends and sibblings are intermixed between the two schools. It's all good fun, and nothing at stake that can't be fixed with some help from a judge or the major or president of the city counsel whose kids are there on scholarship. It's all friendly and above board. They are nice people. All of them.

The Republican party as we know it will die at the end of the Trump era.
