Not a new concept. There was a Russian doc doing this back in the 1980s. his approach was a bit more low tech, but probably better conceptually. He would cut the rigid outer bone layer and then use external traction to lengthen the legs. It worked really well. The dude even created artificial feet by lengthening the bones and then rotating them 90 degrees. I was amazed and so were the orthopedic surgeons I was working with at the time. No way could you do that in the US
