MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Jimmy Buffett is being remembered the world over for his music. Buffett grew-up in Mobile and passed away Friday night after a long battle with skin cancer. This weekend, we’re also getting a glimpse of his philanthropy. He anonymously donated two of his planes to Battleship Memorial Park last year. It’s a gesture both steeped in Buffett lore and continues the park’s educational mission.
The two aircraft have been assembled for months inside the Medal of Honor Pavillion. Whenever someone asked who donated them, people in the know would sheepishly say it was anonymous, all the while knowing they came from one of the biggest names in music.
A Boeing Stearman, with flowers tucked into a wing, was prominently featured in the music video for the Jimmy Buffett song “Trip Around the Sun.” A second plane, a Grumman Goose, was also owned by Buffett and could be seen in Buffett branding like this version of the plane hanging in a Margaritaville resort in Biloxi. The Goose now on display at Battleship Park is restored to how it looked 80 years ago. It was part of the Royal Canadian Air Force and patrolled the Canadian border during World War II.

What about Gary Wright
In any event, I've seen and heard a lot of his concerts over the years, and he almost never brought up politics. He just wanted people to hear some tunes and have some fun.
He was a strong supporter of the military, and he made a couple of pretty good Christmas albums, too. So maybe we can cut him at least a little slack.
Or the dude from Smash Mouth.
He was a lib. At least he didn’t hate the US military. Honestly, hating Buffett tells me more about the hater than it does him.
He was a buddy of Epstein. But since he supported the military that makes him not such a bad guy. s/
All true.
Go troll somewhere else.
“What about Gary Wright”
Well, I saw him in concert with Peter Frampton in 1977. I’m not aware that he donated any airplanes to anybody, though.
So, Buffet was a singer, a pilot and was generous.
We remember him as an astute businessman.
His being a lib is proof that libs can be OK.
But, don’t let your guard down when dealing with folks you don’t know.
RIP Jimmy, I hope that we knew you?
