A supercar convoy broke traffic regulations by 'jumping red lights' and 'failing to give way' during the luxury rally that led to a horror crash and killed two in Italy on Monday, according to local media.
Graphic footage captured the horrific moment billionaire Vikas Oberoi's blue Lamborghini appeared to turn into the path of a red Ferrari that was about to overtake him.
The impact sent both cars flying into a camper van that flipped over, while the Ferrari Portofino belonging to two Swiss tourists crashed off the road and burst into flames.
Swiss tourists Markus Krautli, 67, and his wife Melissa, 63, were killed in the fire while Mr Oberoi and his glamorous Bollywood wife Gayatri Joshi were unhurt and later pictured by their wrecked Lamborghini Huracan.
There was no indication those involved in the fatal incident breached traffic regulations as the convoy made its way from Pula in the south of Sardinia to Olbia in the north.
Property magnate Mr Oberoi, 54, was placed under investigation for causing the double deaths but has reportedly since returned home to India.
As he was not formally charged, no travel restrictions have been placed on him.
A spokesperson for Mr Oberoi's firm Oberoi Realty told MailOnline that Mr Oberoi and his wife had returned but refused to make any further comment.
A statement released following the crash had said the couple were unhurt and added: 'The relevant authorities are investigating the incident and until the facts are established, we won't be able to comment on the subject matter.'
The occupants of the campervan, two tourists from northern Italy, were unhurt and all three vehicles involved were later seized and taken away for examination by the police.
Speaking before news of his return to India was announced, a police source in Sardinia...

“Breached traffic regulations.”
BROKE THE LAW.
Love British nuance.
I have a pretty good idea what happened there.
Group of people in supercars, who did not know each other prior to the trip and hence had no experience driving together as a group, pay to take a sporting tour of Sicily. Let’s see what these babies can do!
They come up on this slow moving camper van.
The Indian in the Lambo up front drives up too close to the camper and cannot see past it whether it is safe to make a pass or not. Shitty driver.
The Swiss guy in the Ferrari is a bit back and can see there’s space to pass. So he guns it, thinking the Indian will hold back.
Except the Indian doesn’t check his mirrors and suddenly makes the lunge.
Boom.
Nota bene: The driver closest to the slow vehicle has the right of passing first.
Had these people know each other and been an experienced group, this would not have happened.
Don’t drive (/ride a bike) with a group of idiots.
Lambo vs Fezza - the Douches vs the Snobs
No. The CONVOY broke traffic regulations. Those two cars INDIVIDUALLY may not have.
The red car (deceased couple) was primarily at fault, as the driver was clearly trying to pass both the blue Lambo and the camper at the same time, and the red car initiated the collision from the rear.
Now, that said, about 70% of the drivers in this “rally” were driving like they were on speed. For example, note the car that nearly takes out the dude on the motorcycle...
To his / her credit, the driver of the car with the dashcam did a good job to maintain a safe distance, and is likely really glad he/she did!
Most people, who own supercars. don’t train to use them. They assume that, because they own them, they’ll be able to operate them.
Correction, the red Ferrari tried to pass at least THREE vehicles in one pass — he never drops back into the right lane.
It’s just symbolic of the open borders / diversity / multiculturalism that is killing Americans every day.
I feel bad for the car.
The Blue Lambo never gets fully back into right lane / is over the the centerline (if slightly) the entire time while in the vid, until the impact, and is clearly looking for an opening to pass. Agreed he’s too close to the camper (the entire group seems to be pretty aggressive drivers). Yet the red Ferrari tries to pass him anyway. Talk about a damn fool thing to try to do...
Wealthy garbage acting out wildly, killing innocent people. I like supercars, I don’t like some of the people who drive them.
Elitism is always with humanity.
no Americans were killed in this story.
Most people, who own supercars. don’t train to use them. They assume that, because they own them, they’ll be able to operate them.
Slippery slope there guy. There are plenty of regular cars that are capable of very high speeds.
And they end up in the same deadly accidents when people try to drive them to their limits.
