After being left alone for the holidays, eight-year-old Kevin McCallister famously went grocery shopping in the 1990 classic "Home Alone," purchasing a large haul of food and everyday household items for under $20.
With today's prices, however, McCallister would need a lot more in his piggy bank and Americans are taking notice.
Items including a half gallon of milk, a half gallon of orange juice, a TV dinner, bread, frozen mac and cheese, laundry detergent, cling wrap, toilet paper, a pack of army men and dryer sheets cost the character, played by Macaulay Culkin, $19.83.
Last year, the same grocery list cost $44.40, and this year, it costs a whopping $72.28 in 2023.
One West Virginia mother-of-two and small business owner joined "FOX & Friends First" Thursday with her reaction to rising costs.
"Different parts of the country are going to see different rates of inflation. And I know that some rates of inflation are normal across decades. But the inflation that we have felt in the grocery store has been just the same as every other American. And it is tough trying to pay for groceries week to week," Drifter Donuts owner Rochelle Chalmers said.
While there has been some cooling in prices since inflation's peak, prices are still pinching the wallets of everyday Americans and creating challenges for business owners.
According to the October consumer price index (CPI), the price of everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rent, was unchanged in October from the previous month. Prices climbed 3.2% from the same time last year.

“Thirsty for more?”
No, but if it paying even more will keep my RINO out of the Senate (meaning a Democrat takes his place), then it is still worth paying more for everything, and driving an EV, and giving up natural gas, because I HATE RINOs!!!
(admit, many of you agree with the above)
Keep the change ya filthy animal
Bidenomics: when Home Alone tyke, Macauley Culkin, bought a half gallon of milk, a half gallon of orange juice, a TV dinner, bread, frozen mac and cheese, laundry detergent, cling wrap, toilet paper, a pack of army men toys, and dryer sheets it cost $19.83.
Last year, the same grocery list cost $44.40,
and this year, the same items cost a whopping $72.28.
Some of us can’t afford to agree.
This is not inflation, it’s currency debasement.
No problem for the Democrats. They’ll convince millions of sheep that the economy’s doing great and if they can’t afford food it’s somehow a good thing. Millions of morons will believe them.
bttt
I get sticker shock every time I eat out, which isn't very often these days. A burger, fries and coffee at a fast-food place will set you back $10 or more, and a meal at a restaurant with table service will cost at least $20.
I know of a business owner who, if it weren’t for a side job, would essentially be out of business. There is not enough profit to be made in the business to sustain it. Eventually, this will work back to the wholesaler who will also be within a hair’s breadth of going broke unless they also have other outside interests/jobs. And the government continues on as usual sitting on their brains.
Anybody remember the scene from the 1968 movie “Yours, Mine and Ours”, where the family of 20 goes grocery shopping? They fill a whole caravan of carts for $126.63.
Now I can carry $126.63 worth of groceries in from the car in one trip, and it’s not because I’m incredibly strong.
Bingo!
We have a winner..!
Oddly, some food is actually DOWN. Walnuts at Costco are 7.49/3# down from 12.99. Chicken breasts at WinCo were recently 98 cents a pound, and $1.48 this week. Produce there fluctuates but the lower prices are about the same. 85% chocolate bars are still $1.99 at Aldi, with eggs around $1.30.

It’s hard to sleep when you are hungry. Even the sheep are waking up to the political scams and plundering.

If you don’t have an Aldi or Lidls in your area, get together with friends and neighbors to petition these companies to open a store in your area. You will save money shopping for food. You’ll also see an interesting assortment of European foods.
Where do you live? Chicken breasts here go for $2/pound on sale, and that’s if you buy the big value pack. They are $3.70 a pound otherwise.
Plus he was able to walk around without ferals beating him up for being white.
I’m not sure why chicken is so low. Last summer it was Roma tomatoes @25 cents a pound.
Sounds like a good place to shop!
