TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The heartache won’t go away. Not anytime soon, anyway. Not for Florida State players and coaches who were driven to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff and play for another title.
The Seminoles had to settle for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, which followed a perfect regular season.
“Nobody can take that from us,” senior defensive back Jarrian Jones said.
The CFP selection committee dropped Florida State (13-0) from fourth to fifth and outside the four-team playoff, a move it justified because of star quarterback Jordan Travis’ season-ending broken leg. It prompted outrage from coach Mike Norvell and FSU administrators, and had state lawmakers crying out for answers.......
They’ve also tried to listen and advise players through upcoming decisions on their futures. Standout defensive end Jared Verse, running back Trey Benson and receiver Johnny Wilson are among those who have opted out of the Orange Bowl against Georgia (12-1) on Dec. 30. There could be more, although Norvell declined to discuss any juniors or seniors weighing choices.

College FB is the most corrupt sport in America.
Whoever wins the game it won’t reflect the strength of either team.
Georgia will be without around 20 players that were on the roster at the end of the year, 15-20 of those players went into the transfer portal, of the players transferring 5-6 of them were 5-star recruits, Georgia had the #1 recruiting class again this year, however, they lost nearly an entire recruiting class in the transfer portal.
FSU is going to be missing their starting QB, RB, and top 2 pass catchers, plus a couple of their best players on defense, all of these players are either already injured or opting out for the NFL draft.
The winning team will have some bragging rights, the game is basically a glorified scrimmage because of all the players who are out.
Bowls are a joke, half the team doesn’t even bother to play in them.

12. First four, who must be conference champions, get byes. Highest ranked Group of 5 schools guaranteed the 12th seed, if they aren’t already in.
First time to see FSU play at The Swamp I was seated in the Semi-hole section. They kept doing a cheer: “F-L-O-R-I-D-A, S-T-A-T-E!! Florida State, Florida State, Florida State!!”
Later learned that was how Bowden figured they could learn ‘em how to spell.
Maybe they’ll get over it when Georgia beats the crap out of them, and I predict they will.
No wait, they’ll blame it on their “teammates” who opted out of playing in the game.
Remember when we all fussed about the AP poll sometimes being wrong, so that led to the League of Bowls and BCS? The idea being that if the #1 and #2 teams play each other in the end, we'd know who the real champion is. The odds of the best team being ranked #3 or #4 was so extremely low it wasn't worth arguing for them to have a chance to prove themselves (if the goal is still to find out who the #1 team is). So we were satisfied with that for a while.
Then Bama fatigue set in -- everybody outside the state of Alabama wondered if someone else could beat Bama and be the #1 team. So it was expanded to a 4-team playoff. The idea being that maybe the best team had been ranked #3 all along. Nobody really believed that, but that's what was touted as an excuse for more feature creep (having to change the system to have new features).
Are FSU fans now saying they're the true best team? Really? If not, then complaining about not being in the playoffs is more feature creep -- making the playoffs have a goal besides determining the true champion. And the CFP is going to a 12-team format next year anyway; will team #13 inevitably complain that they're the real champion?
If you give a mouse a cookie.....
College basketball says, “Hold my beer”.
I enjoyed the FCS playoffs, the North Dakota State-Montana semi-final was a classic.
But South Dakota State will destroy Montana in the Championship Game.
FSU did themselves no favor over the last year, angling to leave the ACC, which wa$n’t good enough and holding them back.
Still butt hurting
True that. One thing I'll give the FSU boss folks is they regularly schedule tough teams that are usually a strong SOS. This year they even scheduled LSU as a big non-conference team to go along with their usual Florida tough non-conference team (along with conference opponents Clemson and Miami). So kudos to them for trying to have a strong schedule where nobody could claim that FSU plays only wuss teams.
But of all of those teams FSU scheduled and played, only LSU was good enough to be ranked in the final rankings (then Louisville later in the ACC championship game). If you look at the final rankings, FSU played only 2 of those teams. Compare that to other teams:
Penn State played 2 of them and lost 1.
Missouri played 4 of them and lost 2.
Oregon played 2 of them (one of them twice) and lost 2.
Ohio State played 3 of them and lost 2.
Georgia played 4 of them and lost 1 (by only 3 points to Bama).
Alabama played 5 of them and lost 1.
Texas played 4 of them and lost 1.
Washington played 2 of them (one of them twice) and lost 0.
Michigan played 3 of them and lost 0.
By those numbers, IMHO the 4 best teams are 1) Bama, 2)Texas, T3) Michigan, and T3) Georgia. After that it'd be 5) Washington, 6) FSU.
Good points, football isn’t easy and greater than dozen games is already too long for college. Even with the three give me’s early in the season
It expands to 12 teams.
I’m hoping they roll Georgia, although I highly doubt it.
I’m not sure if they can even do the chop anymore.
My senior year they announced at one of the games no more singing Dixie. We all immediately stood up and started singing Dixie drowning out whatever the band was playing.
Kids nowadays are so mind controlled they do whatever they’re told.
