TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The heartache won’t go away. Not anytime soon, anyway. Not for Florida State players and coaches who were driven to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff and play for another title.
The Seminoles had to settle for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, which followed a perfect regular season.
“Nobody can take that from us,” senior defensive back Jarrian Jones said.
The CFP selection committee dropped Florida State (13-0) from fourth to fifth and outside the four-team playoff, a move it justified because of star quarterback Jordan Travis’ season-ending broken leg. It prompted outrage from coach Mike Norvell and FSU administrators, and had state lawmakers crying out for answers.......
They’ve also tried to listen and advise players through upcoming decisions on their futures. Standout defensive end Jared Verse, running back Trey Benson and receiver Johnny Wilson are among those who have opted out of the Orange Bowl against Georgia (12-1) on Dec. 30. There could be more, although Norvell declined to discuss any juniors or seniors weighing choices.

FSU should concentrate on beating Georgia. If they win, they can say “told ya we belonged.” If they lose, then they just need to go home and wait till next year, because the committee was right. Of course now that several first string players are bailing out of the Orange Bowl game, I guess they really aren’t all that upset after all.
They’ll be playing against Georgia’s scrubs.
Ohio State lost one game, to Michigan. They beat Penn State and Notre Dame.
My bad. I mis typed. Ohio State lost just one game after playing 3 good teams (teams good enough to still be ranked at the end).
The problem though is that Utah beating Florida was one of the better non-conference wins that the PAC12 had in total. The other two were Oregon in a late rally over Texas Tech and WSU over Wisconsin. So Washington at #5 might be kind.
But I'm having trouble finding more teams that played more than 3 games against final ranked teams.
Bama really impresses me with their 5 games against ranked teams (losing only 1, by 10 points to Texas).
fsu is going to get smoked by Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
Nobody cried in 1991 when once beaten fsu got into the championship game against undefeated Nebraska despite the fact that fsu skipped over undefeated West Virginia.
I also didn’t hear too many complaints when once beaten fsu got into the national title game in 2000 ahead of the one loss miami team that beat them head to head.
As does every decent person. Ideally I’d like for a meteor to hit the stadium. But if I can’t have that, I’d rather the ugly Buttsniffers not lose.
All true. I’ve argued for years the bowls were meaningless, especially when many of the best players don’t care and can’t be bothered to play in them. But nobody cared when our best QB opted to have surgery and missed the bowl game against ucf a couple years ago. Nobody cared when our QB sat out the bowl game last year and we had to start a guy who AFAIK had never taken a snap in a game for us before. So now I will be absolutely merciless in return if fsu loses.
If players opt out it means they’re quitters. If fans say it doesn’t matter then they’re just sour grapes sore losers. These were the rules as explained to me by many others. Fine. Those rules apply now. Let’s see what ya got fsu.
The difference is Kirby’s been signing studs for years. Georgia’s 2nd stringers are young studs who are just waiting for their chance to play. fsu was built through the portal. They don’t have a 2nd string worth a damn.
I’ve never been a Seminoles fan, but I am a Mike Norvell fan. He did a GREAT job with my Memphis Tigers. He’s a great guy, and we were sorry to see him go. But he stood up and told us with dignity, and we liked him, so I’m still a fan. (As opposed to John Calipari [spit] who left town in the middle of the night for Kentucky - coward)
Having Alabama picked this year - IMO - is precisely what we all scream about when diversity comes up... Pick the best, not your friends. I’m sure it’s about TV revenue, anyway. Alabama is a bigger rating.
It’s 12, I believe. Bottom 8 play each other in first round to see who plays the top 4, who get a bye first round.
AND - more games mean more TV money.
That’s exactly what it was. Rating$ .........................
I was raised 69 miles SE from Memphis..............
Is that a metaphoric scalping, or a ticket scalping?5
Amen!
😆
That was 1993. They should have put WV in the Orange against Nebraska, but it wasn’t ever possible for Nebraska to not play a Florida team in the Orange Bowl back then..lol. Of course the two years Colorado went, they got Notre Dame.
Well...you certainly called it. 63-3
