And possibly advance some Russian positions that have not changed in over a year.
Over Christmas, they lost over ONE THOUSAND of their best prison troops, three SU-34s, dozens of heavy vehicles, 22 tanks, the landing craft ship and so much more.
Logistics, you have always to keep logistics as a top consideration.
That said, it must be mentioned that Russia has many issues with its logistics.
After the Christmas losses, the need for transportation and supplies will be lessoned and they might be able to provide some food and shelter to their troops?

Russian Forces Take Heavily Fortified Town of Maryinka in Biggest Triumph Since Bakhmut
The year is ending on an upbeat note for the Russian Federation troops that have just conquered the heavily fortified town of Maryinka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city.
This is a major development, the biggest since Moscow troops regained the initiative, and also the greatest achievement since they gained control of Avdiivka (Bakhmut) in May.
By taking Maryinka, the Russians have significantly pushed back the Ukrainian artillery. For years, Kiev used Maryinka has a key launching pad for drone and artillery strikes against civilians in Donetsk.
Hunter Biden’s laptop WAS Russian disinformation!!!
I see what you did there….:-)
Isn’t Christmas Day observed on January 7 over there?
Did Ukraine find those 500,000 new recruits yet?
Zelensky needs several billion dollars from us in order to do that.
“It is not possible to independently verify Kyiv’s total”
Hah, anything out of Kiev has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Thank you for the reality check.
NEWSWEEK is terribly biased.
Dang! That fish section alone is impressive.
Prove you are not a robot.
Ukraine is still winning, obviously! One thing Russia is definitely losing is the propaganda war and here we see further evidence. Newsweek appears to have left out the news that Ukraine shot down 100 of 50 drones and missiles launched. Need to get that one in there also, or it would just not be a good propaganda piece.
Mariinka is... 1 km from what were the front lines at the beginning of the war. Congratulations Putin, you have sent hundreds of thousands of men to die to move your border six tenths of one mile to “liberate” a now flattened former city.
