I hope he can keep his house at his wages.
Good for him. Burger King either should have done it right or not done it at all.
1. Most of his money came from white donors. Whites (liberal and conservative) love seeing a hardworking, law-abiding black man. Blacks donated far less. Asians not at all.
2. Were this a white Burger King worker, whites would have donated far, far less. Blacks not at all.
Burger King’s Whopper used to be a great burger. It has shrunk in size and the ingredients are stale. They suck anymore. Stopped eating there years ago. Even my grand kids don’t like it and that’s saying something.

I can’t recall what the “reward” was but one of my coworkers had served General Dynamics for, if I recall, twenty years. In passing, his boss flicked his wrist sending the reward, a medallion, I think, flying onto the employee’s desk. He followed it up with something like, “Get those TPS reports on my desk by noon.” After the boss had gone into his office two nearby employees came over and we all stood there for several seconds. I felt embarrassment having witnessed such disrespect for the best employee in the department.
There was some low-voiced conversation about what an asshole the boss was. One of the guys shook the employee’s hand and congratulated him. The honored employee said something along the lines of, “The delivery makes it feel kind of hollow, doesn’t it?”
There was a catalog where you could select something based on how many years of service, but I looked through it and there was nothing there I’d want.
That's cheaper than cheap.
27 years as a burger king cook.. what great aspirations this guy had and he buys an 846 square ft home with money from go fund me.
It’s not a feel good story it’s pathetic.
A Burger King cook is a serious industrial air polluter. His fires produce greasy air pollution that is some how exempted from Federal Air Pollution rules
This act by Burger King does not surprise me, companies no longer want people to stay with them. The company I worked for was sold 3 times and each time they promised us all kinds of things and then took them away. I was supposed to get 4 weeks vacation because how long I was with the company and 6 months later they decided to take away 1 week. They promised us paid medical insurance for the family and that never happened. When I hit 30 years, I got nothing. They were after young engineers that would work for peanuts and then leave.
Jobs at chain restaurants are not supposed to be lifetime careers. No one over 25 should consider it as such.
Congratulations, you have made your own good fortune.
It's OK to turn the page, man. There are a lot of people out there who would like to hire you.
