New research finds that nearly 90% of proteins — yes, even vegan alternatives — tested by researchers contain microplastics, which have been linked to negative health consequences.
Sixteen types of protein sources — including chicken, beef, seafood, pork, tofu and three plant-based alternatives — were analyzed for microplastics in a study published Monday in the journal Environmental Pollution.
The samples were purchased in April 2022 from two supermarkets and one grocer in the Portland, Oregon, area — according to the product packaging, they were produced in the US.
The researchers, from Ocean Conservancy and the University of Toronto, found that 88% of the samples contained plastic particles, implying that humans are likely consuming microplastics no matter their diet.

Aren’t plastics generally carbon containing?
Wouldn’t that make them, by definition, organic?
Well, you gotta die of something.
Forget the meat substitutes. Next will be massive push by the feds for plastic substitutes. I am no fan of plastic but the feds will definitely screw it up and foist some awful mess on us.
As Carlin said...
“The planet … is a self‐correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the Earth plus plastic. The Earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The Earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the Earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age‐old egocentric philosophical question, ‘Why are we here?’.....”
“PLASTIC....A-HOLE!”
well then...plastics ARE in everything we eat and drink so why keep worrying about it. so...what’s for dinner?
Back to Chem 101 for you.
Maybe just go back to wrapping meat in paper?
Adding flavor
Transgenders and falling birth rates.
Many plastics are indeed organic compounds. Polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene, etc including their derivatives), nylon and its derivatives, vinyl and its derivatives, for example, are all organic compounds.
Silicones are NOT organic compounds.
But silicones move so well. /sarc

Some silicone sister with a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
She said, “I’ll turn you on sonny to something strong
Play the song with the funky break”

I’ll just eat the elk and cows that are off the south deck.
On the other I have to wonder just how bad it actually is.
It is sort of like their throwing a fit over any amount of toxin. We are built to handle a certain amount of bad stuff in our food without getting sick. That is why our body has a bunch of filtration systems built in.
You just have to be careful not to overwhelm those systems with large amounts of toxins. But small amounts are handled quite by our biologically systems. And it keeps them from getting bored and shutting down.
isn’t GasX made of simethicone, a plastic
Silicones are degraded by bacteria in the soil and water. They metabolize the methyl and other organic groups leaving silica (ie sand). Silicones’ use however is limited mainly to elastomers and pressure sensitive adhesives.
Nylons will biodegrade since their structure is somewhat like a protein (don’t bury your Glock in the ground without wrapping it; it won’t be there after a while).
The real culprits are polyolefins because of their extensive use in packaging. Researchers (my professor from school) have looked into substituting polyvinyl alcohol, polyhydroxyalkanoates and the like because they biodegrade.
The problem is if you add even a fraction of a cent onto packaging costs management balks.
(see my username)
you know, now that i think about it, i be chemtrails are made of micro-plastics!
