If you have no use for Establishment Republicans, and think they take more than they give, and will always be looking for an opportunity for treachery, sabotage and stabbing in both front and back, you look for someone who is MAGA (which already brings in Independents and old-school Democrats) but younger, and with a milder temperament and maybe more book-learning (as opposed to Trump's running on instinct and experience), but still MAGA.

We are re-making the Republican Party into a MAGA Party. Bringing on Nikki Haley would be like Abraham Lincoln bringing on an establishment Whig for ticket balance.

Trump's history in the office has set a high bar for the slot, and we can be confident he is getting a lot of good suggestions from solid sources.

IMO, the threshold requirements for the VP, who in a matter of a few short hours could well the president, ought to include being smart and strong, a MAGA individual who has demonstrated capability.

The current Leftist's and RINO's shriek about the danger of "retribution", when in fact they fear a strong president that will undertake to undue as much of their Obama-Biden gains as possible.

The Left would likely be just as fearful of West as they are of Trump.

Trump’s running mate has to be someone with three qualities: (1) he/she appeals to a demographic group of voters where Trump is weak, (2) he/she offsets Trump’s image as a big-city East Coast jackass with a big mouth, and (3) he/she is a long-time political figure who can be managed by the GOP establishment.
