Mongolia's former president mocks Putin with a map showing how big the Mongol empire used to be, and how small Russia was

Putin has relied on historical borders to argue Ukraine is part of Russia and to justify the war.

Mongolia's former president shared a map of the Mongol Empire, which included parts of Russia.

"After Putin's talk. I found Mongolian historic map. Don't worry. We are a peaceful and free nation," he wrote.

The Mongol Empire was once the largest in the world. Its territory covered much of Eurasia and included modern-day China and much of Russia, as well as Ukraine.

Today, Mongolia, between China and Russia, is a smaller country, but it's still one of the world's largest nations in terms of overall landmass.

And look how big Mongolia is now...... the only reason Mongolia still exists is because it’s a buffer state between China and Russia.

I found it interesting that the new man Zelensky chose to run the Ukraine military, Oleksandr Syrsky, was born near Moscow, and attended a Russian military institute. He speaks mainly Russian, and speaks “Ukrainian” dialect badly. His father was a colonel in the Russian army, and Syrsky’s parents and siblings all live in Moscow.

But tell me again how Ukraine is a free and independent nation with a long history separate from Russia, and in fact Ukraine has nothing to do with Russia.

The Ukrainians don’t want to be ruled by Russia. Seems like a very reasonable attitude.

Genghis Khan didn’t wipe out Islam - the sacking of Baghdad was by Chingiz Khan’s grandson - Hulagu Khan.

Genghis did wipe out the Khwarezim empire and killed many Iranians, but didn’t target Islam - he had Muslims in his army and as advisers.

Label should be Moscovia, since, at the time, they had not stolen their current name (Russia) from the Kievan-Rus' Empire.

He refers to the Kievan-Rus’ Empire which existed when Russia was called Moscovia (consisting of mostly forests and swamps) and before Pete the Greatest stole their name.

Native Americans didn't want to be ruled by Washington, D.C. either, but the white man took their land, their culture, their religion, their language, and their children. They put them in Catholic boarding schools where they were beaten, raped, starved, and buried in unmarked graves. Canada did the same thing.

I love the Mongolian’s comment: but don’t worry, we are a peaceful and free nation. It would be hilarious if other countries mocked Putin with their own maps, showing that past geographical extensiveness is no particular reason for causing a current war.

Not so quick! Now, because of Russia’s enormous size, Mongolia would now fit into Russia.

So this means that historically most of Russia actually belongs to Mongolia? So, by that measure, Putin should concede it to them according to his logic.

—”the only reason Mongolia still exists is because it’s a buffer state between China and Russia.”

How so?

The Mongolian border has little changed since ~1700AD.
And predates the Russian empire.
