Furious Harlem residents forced New York Mayor Eric Adams into a humiliating u-turn on plans to house migrants in an empty luxury apartment building after they spotted bunk-beds being discreetly delivered.
The WA condominium off 130th Street promised buyers an indoor swimming pool, marble bathrooms and a rooftop running track, before the project was put on ice in a neighborhood with a chronic housing shortage.
Schools, nursing homes and a string of landmark hotels have been requisitioned to house many of the 170,000 migrants who have arrived in the city since the spring of 2022.
But neighbors of the condominium in Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard were determined it was not going to go the same way.
'We were trying to find out what was going on, and we weren't getting any answers to our questions,' neighbor Regina Smith told CBS.
The Mayor faced an angry reception when he agreed to meet residents at an emergency meeting on Thursday night.
'You are the mayor. We do not want to hear excuses,' one told him.
'No, I don't agree with it turning into a sanctuary for asylum seekers knowing we have people right here that need the space,' said Tiffany Fulton of Silent Voices United.
'We should have been informed I'm looking for answers.'
The 35-apartment development was marketed as a luxury doorman building complete with granite countertops in kitchens a state-of-the-art fitness center and marble bathrooms.
But it has sat empty for more than a decade, appearing briefly as a location in a 2021 episode of Law & Order SVU when it was served as the exterior for the 'Camino Family Center'.
'WA Condominiums is one of the newest condominiums in the storied neighborhood of Central Harlem,' the developer's website promises.

Easily done. I have read here that putting in new plumbing for the new apartments is the obstacle. One FReeper said that every plumber in the US would need to come NYC to put in new plumbing.
This is what NYC needs to do to these empty office towers.
Run a large diameter water to the top floors. Residents and denizens of each floor can turn the tap there to haul drinking and cooking water into their apartments. In standard 5 gallon plastic water bottles.
Every ten floors there are showers that tap off of this pipe/ The shower water goes down a new large diameter drain pipe. Every ten floors there are eco-commodes. People are encouraged to piss down the drain pipe. The waste from the eco-toilets is taken down the freight elevator every few days. Or maybe once a week. Waste goes into a sewage truck and is dumped somewhere, anywhere in New Jersey.
For cooking run some new mains up the building to a communal cooking area on each floor. For heating each apartment, there will not be any. The residents will get vouchers to buy long johns and other thermal wear,

The evil side of me really hopes that hoards of homeless NYC people just flood into the building and take it over and make a media circus out of the whole mess! Homeless people of NYC UNITE!! Dont stand for this crap of being marginalized by illegals AND your government officials! Take Your City Back!!

Harlem residents are dscoering that Eric Adams is a mayor who is a communist ideologue, one who subscribes to the unified field theory of Marxism: Oppressor and Oppressed....the oppressed shall receive the quarters of their wealthy masters who made their wealth on the backs of brown and black people.The whole world of Adams has become a colonial barrio.
And as far as Eric Adams is concerned, Harlem Residents are nothing but Bourgoisie, soon to be led into a massive instrument of economic social destruction.
Black folk had better wake up, or soon they will be once agains picking cotton as slaves on the Dem Marxist plantation.....and they will soon not have enough food stamps to buy a single bottle of malt liquor.Those resources will go to the newly oppressed....black folk are no longer in style with the Deomocrat commies.
