SMITHS FERRY — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shook Idaho residents Monday morning, with impacts felt in Boise in the Treasure Valley.
The quake, which the U.S. Geological Survey said occurred at 10:25 a.m., is the largest in Idaho since a magnitude 6.5 quake occurred in March 2020. The agency said Monday’s quake originated near Smiths Ferry, about 50 miles south of McCall.

Prof Willsey is a geology professor at a college in Southern Idaho. He has an excellent YouTube channel that focuses on geology. He just posted a video on the earthquake out there.

What we know : the earth moves, under our feet. And we feel the sky tumbling down.

Not close at all, nor structurally connected. That part of Idaho is very active seismically and a 4+ is not that much out of the ordinary

Smith’s Ferry is 280 miles west of Yellowstone. Not exactly close.

If I said “that was DUMBs”, nobody would understand.
But, you know. Thanks for pointing it out.

4.9 is a minor. That would hardly know a picture off the wall in CA

I didn’t feel anything, and I’m about 50 miles south of Smith’s Ferry.

Not a quiver in northern Idaho, just a snowstorm. I blame the sun spots. That or evil spirits, and we have enough of those in DC.

Thank you for the link.
South of Boise, I thought it was a sudden gust of wind. It was noticeable for less than maybe a second. Now, I know it was an earthquake.

We don’t even wake up for anything under a 5.

We miss you. Come on back!
My mom was born in Sandpoint, ID and left when she was about 3 months old. But they moved to Potlatch where she spent the 20 years before Dad married her and took her east.
