Kellogg’s Faces Boycott After CEO Pushes ‘Cereal for Dinner’ in Response to Inflation

Kellogg’s is facing a boycott after its CEO suggested that cash-strapped families suffering under inflation should eat “cereal for dinner.”

Outraged consumers are planning to boycott Kellogg’s from April 1 to June 30 to send the company a message during the second quarter of its fiscal year, as well as pressure Kellogg’s to lower its prices, according to a report by MarketWatch.

The calls for a boycott come after Kellogg’s CEO Gary Pilnick said that families worried about inflation should eat “cereal for dinner,” and even suggested that such woes are a good marketing opportunity for Kellogg’s, telling CNBC that cereal “tends to be a great destination when consumers are under pressure.”

“Some of the things that we’re doing is, first, messaging,” the Kellogg’s CEO said. “We have to reach the consumer where they are. So we’re advertising about cereal for dinner.”

After being asked if suggesting “cereal for dinner” for families suffering under inflation could be taken “the wrong way,” Pilnick said he didn’t think so, adding that the concept is “landing really well right now.”

“Over 25 percent of our consumption is outside the breakfast occasion,” the Kellogg’s CEO, who has an estimated net worth of $15.7 million, said. “A lot of it’s at dinner, and that occasion continues to grow.”

Last time I had cereal for dinner was when I was in college. I'm often wonder if the food at WV Tech was made from the chemical drums of Monsanto.

He could frame his message in a more sensitive way. Cereal and milk are a tasty snack for some people esp. if you cut up a banana with it.

The price of major brand cereals is outrageous. I always buy the house brand of my local supermarket - just as good and cheaper.

Welcome to Democrat Joe Biden's Bidenflation and BidenDepression 2024.

It's past Christmas but Democrat Joe Biden is still wrecking the economy with Bidenflation

I guess let them eat cereal 🥣 🥣 🥣 instead of let them eat cake 🎂🎂🎂.

We quit eating breakfast cereal YEARS ago due to the cost and the lack of nutrition.

It simply is NOT good for you. Hyper processed faux food never is.

The nutrition values they give are never for just the cereal alone but so much cereal with some amount of milk. Well, it’s the milk giving all that apparent nutritional value.

I only eat cereal for breakfast on Saturday morning, when I can't cook. And that is always the healthiest whole grain vitamin packed type I can find, and when it's on sale. Otherwise, I make whole wheat pancakes from scratch, mushroom cheese omelets, etc. This idiotic campaign to push those sugar-laden mixes of garbage as "dinner" are disgusting.

“What we have here is a failure to communicate”.
It’s a sales campaign to move his product.
This is based on present corporate opinion.

I do not think this is worth jumping up and down about.
Just make a private choice not to buy that brand.
This is NOT something worth trying to BudLite, or bankrupt a company about.

I have a simple homemade granola recipe that we use for quick breakfasts or on occasion, snacks.

I think the anger is misplaced. People
should be mad at the Biden Administration for printing too much money, spending us into debt, and causing the inflation.
