I have an older Trailblazer LT with OnStar. I’ve never had an active subscription with it. However, last April I received a letter from my insurance company saying my mileage for 2023 was estimated to be 34K miles and they were substantially raising my rate. I did 34K/4 to get the 3-month total of 8500. It was at 8600 in the first week of April. Right on the money -my money.

I am not sure I get your question. My 2021 Ford WANTS me to connect it to the Internet. It BEGS for a smartphone connection or WiFi connection. I had little choice in what I bought, but I only wanted a truck, so I give it no connection.

I have zero doubt that if I connected it, it would downgrade its software and violate my privacy six ways to Sunday. You are correct, that I would have to be a "genius" to disable all possible connection and retain a functioning vehicle, I expect.
