Who changed the Sabbath? Is a question asked today By. honest hearted people who seek to know the way.· Not I, Chimed the Church of England bell; It must have been-ah, well, I can not say, Just who did change the Sabbath day.

Who changed the Sabbath, The fourth command, so deep and, broad, Fixed by the firm decree, Of the eternal God.. Not I, Rang out" the Methodist bell; The Bible, it must be, will tell, I can not say, .' But think that Jesus changed the day.

Who changed the, Sabbath~,- An institution well designed, To keep the Creator's work in mind, Not .I, Came a sound from another steeple, Don't charge that Sin to the Baptist people, We only say ". It makes no difference about the day.

Who changed' the Sabbath, That day of holy rest. Which God not only sanctIfied, but 'blessed? Not I, Rang out in lusty tones a bell; I have no faith in Sabbaths, or in a burning hell, Don't dare to say The Congregationalists e'er changed, the' day.

Who changed the Sabbath;- The day that Christ adored And said 'twas made' for man, And he its Lord; The day the Marys kept, While Christ lay in the tomb; The day the disciples spent In their 'own upper room; The day which martyred hosts, Observed 'mid scorn and ,Jeers, - , On which they sealed their faith . With earnest cries and tears; The day that now is kept By many to theIr loss; By noble men who bear, The burden of the cross?

Hey, got to give her credit. She has historically claimed the change of the Sabbath to Sunday was the Mark of her authority. At least she's honest about that.

In another publication, she ridicules Protestants to no end as to why they keep Sunday...yet claim to follow the Bible. This is brutal...not for the weak of heart.

Rome's Challenge to Protestants, Why do you keep Sunday. (And it's got the best theology you will ever read too)

No one can change the Sabbath, but Scripture does not forbid gathering on any day of the week.

This is a doozy to read. About the best theology for the Bible Sabbath you can imagine and it’s from the Catholic church!! Don’t take it personal. She ridicules every Sunday keeping Protestant church for keeping her day. She does mention Seventh day Adventists but blows them off as some small nothings. funny. she can be funny even when she’s brutal .......ouch!

Agree, we have prayer meeting on Wednesday nights. But there is only one day God made holy. Only God can make a day holy. And he did it in Genesis. So it’s a day those who honor the Sabbath won’t do certain things....work, shop, dodger game, etc. It’s the Lord’s day.

Forget the Sabbath!! Everyone keeps Sunday nowadays. It's the current thing. Even though it was observed by Jesus and His Disciples, this command was never repeated in the NT unlike the other commands.

But on the other hand, it is the only one that starts with the word "Remember". As if the world would forget it. I keep remembering something Jesus did say "If ye love Me, keep My Commandments". Do we love God enough to obey Him?

Jesus, “Lord Sabbath”, rose on the first day on the week, Sunday, the day AFTER Saturday, Sabbath. Henceforth beginning with his resurrection, his followers met together with Jesus himself on the following Sundays.

This “change” is consistent with the change from the Old Covenant of the Law being replaced by the New Covenant of Grace. Under the Old Covenant of the Law, you worked first and then on the seventh day, you rested.

Under the New Covenant of Grace, you begin by resting in the perfect and finished work of Christ on the cross. “IT IS FINISHED!”

Jesus is not my Sabbath day. The Sabbath day was made. Jesus was not made. He made the Sabbath day and he made it for me. Thank you.

Jesus was Lord of the Sabbath.
He fulfilled the Sabbath.
He is now the Sabbath rest for believers.

You are correct. Constantine brought Sunday keeping into the church. It is amazing what Rome did too. Handing a secular power to a spiritual power. Unprecedented. And she is still there today.....a sovereign spiritual nation. Both state and religious and her influence once again growing world wide. And Sunday is being exalted in the name of climate change.

Sunday will unite her with her daughters who also accept her day and accept her authority. Revelation is about worship. Worship the beast or worship the creator......the Sabbath is a memorial to creation. And the dragon is wroth this those who keep the commandments of God. John sees the 10 commandments in heaven ....the tabernacle of the testimony.

And nobody changes that....not one jot or tittle. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. I’ll follow his example and his law. No thanks to Rome.

I was raised Catholic.

In my catechism it asked;"What day is the Sabbath?
A: Saturday
Q: Why do we worship on Sunday instead of Saturday?
A: Because the Holy Catholic Church changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.
Q: By what authority did the church change the day from Saturday to Sunday?
A: By the plenitude of that divine power bestowed on her by Jesus Christ.

So there you pretty much have it.

According to my personal understanding, Sabbath means rest, and it is every seven days, not necessarily a specific day of the week. The Jews had their traditional Sabbath since the time of Moses, but the early Christians began to meet on the day of the week when Jesus was resurrected. In fact, many years ago I read that in the beginning the Jewish Sabbath and the Christian Sabbath were recognized.

The Sabbath is binding on Jewish people, not Gentiles.

It’s basic contract law. The Covenant of Mt. Sinai is between God and the Jewish people. Gentiles are not a party to that contract.

The law that applies to Gentile people are the Laws of Noah.

The Laws of Noah are structured differently, but when you get into the nitty gritty, are effectively the 10 commandments (and from thence all the other sub-parts), less the Sabbath.

If we had only kept the Sabbath on Saturday then Hitler would never have come to power, the French Revolution would have been more like the American Revolution, the 60's would never have happened, the Soviet Union and Maoist China would never have happened.

We really screwed up!

Q: By what authority did the church change the day from Saturday to Sunday?

I think you have a false dichotomy or false dilemma here, other than the replacing of the Old Covenant of the Law with the New Covenant of Grace (Hebrews Chapters 8-10).

I don't see where the Sabbath was necessarily the day of Jewish worship before Christ. The Sabbath was simply a day of rest for the Jews.

After Christ's resurrection, Jesus himself appeared to his disciples on Sundays until he ascended to Heaven. So Sundays became a day of corporate worship and also a day of rest. There's nothing in the Bible that says Saturday's Sabbath was done away except the law that REQUIRED you to rest on Saturday was abolished (Heb. 8:13).

And OBTW, the authority for individual or church action should ultimately be God's Word, not man's organizational decrees.

>>The Sabbath is binding on Jewish people, not Gentiles.>>

I have to disagree based on the fact that the sabbath day was made a holy day in Genesis at creation. Not only does it predate the Jews, it predates every human being ever born except Adam. And Adam means man and Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man.

The Sabbath is a memorial to creation, God’s perfect creation. THe first full day Adam and Eve spent together was a Sabbath day, the seventh day that God hallowed.

I don’t think God waited a few thousand years to release the blessed Sabbath day to a race of people. I don’t think he hid it from all mankind who existed before our Jewish friends. And we read in Isaiah ALL MANKIND will keep the Sabbath in the new earth. Isaiah 66.

I respect your opinion but I don’t agree with it based on scripture. thank u.

According to my personal understanding

Yes, our feelings and what my preacher told me are all nice but they don't overrule Biblical "It is written". The Sabbath is recognized as the seventh day. Jesus kept it. The Disciples kept it. Matt. 24:20 affirms the Sabbath was still the day to observe. The Sabbath hasn't changed since Creation.

The Sabbath is binding on Jewish people, not Gentiles.

That's not Biblical. Read Mark 2:27 “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath”. It does not say the Sabbath was made for Jews but for mankind.
