Truckers challenge Biden administration over climate crackdown on electric big rig. ('That's how useless they are.')
Fox News ^ | 4/03/24 | Thomas Catenacci

American truck drivers are sounding the horn on the Biden administration's recently finalized environmental regulations that aim to push for the heavy-duty vehicle sector to go all-electric.

The truckers voiced concerns that electric heavy-duty vehicle technology is not nearly advanced enough to replace the nation's existing diesel-powered fleet, noting limitations on vehicle batteries, like low performance in cold weather conditions and shorter range. They also warned that the lack of high-powered charging infrastructure and power grid upgrades needed for fueling vehicles would present additional problems.

"I'm an owner-operator. I've been in the business for 30 years," Mike Nichols, a Wisconsin-based trucker, told Fox News Digital in an interview. "Even if they subsidized the cost of the electric vehicle 100%, I still would refuse because I still would go broke. That's how useless they are. If they gave me one of these things, I still wouldn't take it.

"EV trucks don't do as much work. They're heavier, so they can't haul as much. They don't go as far. They take longer to charge," Nichols added, saying he wouldn't be able to run his business if he were forced into using an electric vehicle.

"So, you're going to need more trucks on the road, which is completely the opposite of what we would want if we were actually concerned about bettering our society."

On Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized the regulations, which kick in beginning in 2026 for model year 2027 vehicles. The regulations gradually become more stringent through model year 2032, affecting short-haul and long-haul tractor-trailer trucks and vocational trucks like delivery vehicles, school and public transit buses, and garbage trucks, concrete trucks and fire trucks.

The activists and bureaucrats pushing this nonsense have zero grounding in reality. They will likely get promoted for their Green “achievements” and will have long-ago moved on when the consequences kick in.

I suspect that the inevitable shortages, including food, will lead to increased prices, severe shortages, and finally riots. When the riots are unable to be quelled (because people need to eat), you will see some backtracking. But probably that is what it will take.

Truckers and Farmers are the lifeblood of this country, and the Democrats are attacking both.

I’m hoping Trump wins, Biden dies, the EPA is put out to pasture with about every other 3 letter government shxthole,
the border is closed, illegals deported or better yet shot on sight, the military is rebuilt with DEI and Woke kicked out, fossil fuels start flowing and prices all over will start dropping.

Several electric trucks should pull up to liberal politicians’ homes and run long extension cords to their electric outlets.

The charging time is an issue. Where I work, the trucks run almost 24/7. The day driver gets out and within an hour or two, the night driver gets in. The electric trucks need 8-10 hours to charge. When they cost $150,000 new they need to work. Now at 400 plus, they are supposed to sit?

EPA Chief Michael Reagan:

Michael S. Regan was sworn in as the 16th Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency on March 11, 2021, becoming the first Black man and second person of color to lead the U.S. EPA.

Prior to his nomination as EPA Administrator, Michael Regan served as the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). As Secretary, he spearheaded the development and implementation of North Carolina's seminal plan to address climate change and transition the state to a clean energy economy. Under his leadership, he secured the largest coal ash clean-up in United States history.

He led complex negotiations regarding the clean-up of the Cape Fear River, which had been contaminated for years by the toxic chemicals per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS). In addition, he established North Carolina's first-of-its-kind Environmental Justice and Equity Advisory board to better align social inequities, environmental protection, and community empowerment.

Throughout his career, he has been guided by a belief in forming consensus, fostering an open dialogue rooted in respect for science and the law, and an understanding that environmental protection and economic prosperity go hand in hand.

That’s a damn fine prescription for saving America, MD. Add all big city police forces are doubled; all crooked marxist DAs and judges across the land are sent to North Korea; and the Free Press is once again a free press.

Oh, they do, and they know EXACTLY what they’re doing. Until our side is able to that simple fact and deal with them accordingly, they will continue to DEFEAT US.

You mean using a Cloward-Piven stategy to crash the economy and then attempt to install full-blown Marxism? That could well be their strategy (as they are that Bat-S crazy). But I don’t think it will work out for them like they imagine.

Yep, destroy everything and rebuild in the format they desire. As to whether they’ll be successful, it depends on 2 things:
1) Whether conservatives can get past their bias that ALL politically active people want what’s best for this country.
2) Whether conservatives can VOTE for people who have the best chance of stopping these people, regardless of whether they’d want their daughter to marry them, or they don’t always vote as ‘pure’ conservatives.

And sorry, I’m not optimistic. Even ON THIS SITE, we have one guy from Nevada, A SWING STATE, who will not vote for Trump (likely due to reason #2). Sickening. Guy must HATE this country or something.

I recall seeing an editorial posted on here that claimed carbon emissions go to zero with ethanol, apparently unaware that ethanol molecules contain carbon....a useful idiot, yes.

I suppose there are brains manipulating the useful idiots.

I’m sure that’s >100k.

And a lot of children digging for the materials used in those batteries. LOL

“So, you’re going to need more trucks on the road, which is completely the opposite of what we would want if we were actually concerned about bettering our society.”

People still don’t get that these issues have NOTHING to do with reality.

Post ~1970 and with Silent Spring, environmentalism has become all about political grand standing and making money. What ever happened to the ozone hole? Spotted owl? Baby seals? Saving the whales? DDT... It’s mostly junk today which is used in political theater and makes someone rich.

As you go through history, there are ALWAYS very smart people leading revolutions. Often they wind up being killed in their revolutions, but they are ALWAYS led by smart people.

In the case Ethanol, it does burn ‘clean’ in that the only products of burning are CO2 and water, but the definition of ‘clean’ has now been contracted to exclude CO2.

Pepsico explains how it uses Tesla Semi electric trucks in glimpse of the future of trucking

Pepsico explained that it uses most of its 21 Tesla Semi electric trucks for deliveries within 100 miles with several stops. They operate for up to 12 hours a day.

Dejan Antunovic, electrification program manager at Pepsico, explained that three of the Tesla Semi trucks are dedicated to long-haul trucking, with routes that vary between 250 to 450 miles.

To support that, Tesla has been installing 750 kW Megachargers at Pepsico facilities. They enable charging to 80% capacity in less than 45 minutes.

Pepsico noted the difficulty of installing that much charging power at a facility and said that they will use what they learned from this experience to plan for future depots that will be electrified.
